Legals who don't pay taxes will get rebates, as long as they contributed to payroll taxes. This should be true for illegals as well.

Denying them is a slap on all that is good and human.

Stop the hate!

 I agree. If someone pays taxes then they are entitled to the refund regardless of their legal status. If somoene is illegal and IS paying their taxes then that shows responsibility on their part.

Nevermind the responsibility of being here illegally!

So what is your point? It is a different issue. It is the IRS responsibility to figure out what to do with illegals? If they pay taxes, they are entitled to get the rebates.

You don't see the lunacy of you suggesting they are 'responsible' by paying taxes, all the while being here ILLEGALLY (how responsible of them!).

How funny! You should ask the Govt to figure out first that Govt should not take any taxes from illegals. It is simple rule: if you pay taxes, you deserve the rebate check. Nowhere it says that the rebate checks are for US citizens, US permanent residents, and anyone in US with a valid visa.

Well, lest you twist my words further...I said nothing about the rebate, only the idea that calling illegals 'responsible' is a joke.

If they are paid by checks, the taxes are automatically deducted from the pay check. So does anyone have any choice to avoid it? Many people came to this country illegally for better lives, so I would not call them irresponsbile or think calling illegals 'responsible; is a joke. But it is Govt job to solve this problems with illegal immigrants.

Yes, God forbid personal responsibility for one's actions ever occur.

So you don't think there is anything responsible about someone paying taxes and filing their taxes? A responsible action doesn't mean that every decision that person makes is a good responsible one.

Yay for illegals paying taxes! Yay for sending all their money to their homeland, and not in our economy! Yay for being 'responsible' by paying taxes in a country they are not allowed to be in, with a job they are not allowed to have, and with a SSN they are not allowed to have!

That better?

OK..see spot run.

if they are here illegally, they can not have a SS#. therefore they are using a stolen SS#..responsible?

True but they ARE taking responsibility when they file for an ITIN # and file their taxes. No one here is saying that every decision they make is a good one.

if they have an ITIN#, they are not illegal

Not exactly. People just use an ITIN to pay taxes if they don't have a SSN. They could be in the country legally, or not.

Just anounced on CNN.....Senate will block rebates to illegals..........

Really? How would they figure it out who is legal Vs illegal?

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

You are not getting the point. Is it easier for you to be sarcastic than to admit that there is some truth to what people here are saying? I don't see how any illegal could send ALL their money to their homeland. I think you are making alot of assumptions. Regardless of what they are or are not supposed to do, they ARE paying taxes. That to me is a form of responsibility.

Incorrect..check your facts.

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (or ITIN) is a United States tax processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service. It is a nine-digit number that begins with the number 9 and has a 7 or 8 in the fourth digit, example 9xx-7x-xxxx or 9xx-8x-xxxx. The IRS issues ITINs to individuals who are required to have a taxpayer identification number but who do not have, and are not eligible to obtain, a Social Security Number.

ITINs are issued regardless of immigration status because both resident and nonresident aliens may have Federal tax return and payment responsibilities under the Internal Revenue Code. Individuals must have a filing requirement and file a valid federal income tax return to receive an ITIN, unless they meet an exception.

In 2006 1.4 million people used ITIN when filing taxes. Federal tax law prohibits the IRS from sharing data with other government agencies including the INS, ensuring illegal immigrants that the tax information will be confidential and not be used to deport them.[1]

I don't like the word "illegal"

Me either. Very exclusionary.

You may think it's exclusionary, but facts are facts. If you don't like to call someone who is in the country illegally an "illegal immigrant", then how would you refer to them, in the context of their legal status in the US?

Maybe we could say "person residing in the US without legal permission to be here"? That's kinda wordy.

Sometimes I'm sarcastic without using smilies. ;)

The word illegal only stirs sh*t in this forum that's why I don't like it...no other reason

I can assure you the term 'undocumented immigrant' would be the same.

I agree. It is what it is. A person here illegally is just that. I don't see why we need to sugar coat it.

I'm being honest!

They are not living in America legally, they have no work permit, they have no (current) visa, etc. So their job is illegal, their SSN is likely illegal & paying taxes means diddly squat.

Nothing responsible about that, AT ALL.

Ok and they could go one step further and NOT pay taxes right? So the fact that they are shows SOME form of responsibility, is that a better statement?
