My husband's interview is the 4th of February this Monday and I have a few questions. I of course am more nervous than he is and in the end it will all end well, but I just like to be overprepared I guess. On the interview letter it says that if you are not fluent in English to have an interpreter with you. Well my husband does great in English and can converse with little problem, but he is not necessarily fluent. It won't be a problem to go without an interpreter or will it? Also when bringing all the things they asked for on the letter is there a prefered method of organizing or just whatever works for us? Finally, what is the best piece of advice to give to someone going in for this interview? I think those are the biggest questions I had and do appreciate your help. Thanks!

03/16/03: Met the love of my life

01/24/06: Officially began our relationship

03/13/07: NVC sent packet to La Habana

My husband also was pretty good at English, but when I gave the paper o the window at the Newark office I asked for an interpreter, what they did was interview in Spanish. Thank goodness I speak fluent. They ask different people for differnt things . Just bring copies of everything.

Good Luck

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

We brought and interpreter just in case and used her b/c our officer was very hard to understand in English and didn't speak Spanish. We just brought along my friend who speaks Spanish so they are not picky about who is interpreting as long as it's not the USC. My biggest piece of advice would be bringing more is better than bringing less! I know it's hard but try to relax. I was so nervous and it didn't help at all! Just think of it as an opportunity to be able to talk about you and your spouse's relationship :)

Good luck!

We brought an interpretor since my husband is not fluent in English; I even called USCIS first to ask if it was necessary - could I do it myself? I was told no.

But in the end when they called us for the interview the IO asked why there were 3 people. She told our interpretor to sit down and just swore us in - she let me translate.

The IO did ask a lot of questions that hubby could answer himself, so that was nice.

as for bringing materials...everyone seems to say that they don't really take the time to look through it all, but you will of course bring your documents and proof of relationship just to be safe.

relax!

good luck, and be sure to post up your experience and results!

I brought a lot of evidence to the interview. They didn't even look at it. I asked them if they needed anything, but they just kept saying 'No, we have enough.' Still...the interview said it was obvious that we were very prepared. So, do you best to be over-prepared. They'll notice...

hi there..

ours is on the 7th of Feb, my husband is the USC. Haven't really started preparing as I am conceiving, and haven't felt well lately...Guess I have to start pronto!!

God bless you on your coming interview...also to all of us with interviews pretty soon!!!

You can organize the papers the way you want. This way you can find them easier and faster when they ask for them.

My best advise for the interview is to stay calm. I know that's not easy. I was so nervous on the beginning of the interview that I started stuttering and saying our adresse wrong  . After 5 minutes the interview was done and I was wondering why I was so nervous before.

Good luck on your interview on Monday! (F)

Hi Rebex,

does your fiance live in Havana? if so, i wonder if he'd be willing to talk to my fiance and give him his side of the experience. we are so lucky to have these resources like message boards, but they are going through it pretty alone on their end.

thanks, and again...good luck!
