Hi Everyone, my name is Nydia, and I am new to your forums. Since deciding to start this process I feel a little unsure as to how or where to start, and would really appreciate any advice you can provide.

Just so you can get an idea of what my situation is here it goes: I was studying abroad in El Salvador when I met Neftaly who was a fellow student. After a year in El Salvador I am now ready to return to the US, and I would like him here with me. I am unsure as to what the best process would be. K1? K 3? C R 1? (am I even getting all these abbreviations right? There is a lot of information! )

Anyway, it's also complilcated since I have been living in El Salvador for a year, and so have no US income. I can use my mom's and former household as my address, but I still need to meet that poverty line threshhold. I read somewhere about co-sponsors. But I don't even know where to start.

(I am currently in California for what I thought was just a visit, but I don't know if I should start the immigration process now that I am here)

Has anyone been in a similiar situation and can offer some advice? Should I return to the U.S. to work or should I go back to El Salvador, get married, find co-sponsors and bring Neftaly to the U.S. starting the process abroad?

Again, thank you for listening, and any advice would be great!

Nydia Y Neftaly (NYN)

Whatever you decide you are in for a bit of a wait unless the consulate in ES will accept an I-130 directly for your spouse (direct filing based on your qualifying residence there) as this is typically the shortest route. Obviously to which means you must get married first before this can be filed...

It all depends on your priorities. Work upon entry, then CR-1, Marry in the USA then either visit marry and file for a visa, or file for a K-1 and marry.

The decision is yours.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.
