My Fiancee just finished her Medical Exam at St.Lukes today, somehow the doctor got her very nervous, asking her multiplication and addition questions, the she asked her if she ever did drugs, for some ungodly reason my Lyn told the doctor she did drugs twice when she was 16. I am sick!! Has anybody any information what might happen? Lyn is 24 now.

wow im so sorry for that... i dont know, but you've read i guess all those people that says they have use drugs before and the outcome is not as good as what we want it to be... i hope we can get a miracle from it... did you brief her about drugs issues pertaining to that it may cause denial if one will admit of using it? i guess nervousness will get you and i cant make a straight face if i lie anyways so it must have been difficult for her

In Jamaica if you admit drug use of any kind during your life, it is a denial.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

awwww... few mos. ago here in VJ someone admitted about doing drugs couple of years ago, she was sent to the Psychiatrist at St. Lukes and then outright denial at the EMBASSY, illegal drugs and marijuana are outright denial and ban too.. lets hope for the best.

Oh gosh, that's very sad! I have read a post just late last year, I guess the 3rd quarter of last year. The fiancee admitted on taking drugs and she was denied. BUT don't jump to that conclusion, let's pray and hope she'll still be considered for a visa approval.

I'm just wondering... I had my medical last week and the doctor didn't ask me about that question. Is that something they would ask randomly? Oh well, I have never ever done drugs in my whole life. The first question she asked me is about my fiance's name and my course in college. Then after that she then asked my medical history like when was the last time I was in the hospital, any major or minor operation, if i'm taking any medicines or multi-vitamins, if I have scars, and then she asked me to disrob and yeah, she checked everything.

You may or may-not need to file a waiver, it is up to counselor officer, and what the doctor put in the report.

(1) Health-related grounds.-

(A) In general.-Any alien-

(iv) who is determined (in accordance with regulations prescribed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services) to be a drug abuser or addict, is inadmissible.

(B ) Waiver authorized.-For provision authorizing waiver of certain clauses of subparagraph (A), see subsection (g).

There was another situation here on VJ, a few months back that was similar to yours. The beneficiary admitted to a one time drug use during the medical, which led to a visa denial. The Section 212(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act states(among other things) that:

(a) Classes of Aliens Ineligible for Visas or Admission.-Except as otherwise provided in this Act,aliens who are inadmissible under the following paragraphs are ineligible to receive visas and ineligible to be admitted to the United States:

(1) Health-related grounds.-

(A) In general.-Any alien-

...

(iv) who is determined (in accordance with regulations prescribed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services) to be a drug abuser or addict, is inadmissible.

It depends on how the consulate will look at your fiance's admission of more than once drug use in the past. In the situation we saw a few months ago, the consulate found the beneficiary ineligible to receive a visa due to the admitted drug use.

Here's the link FYI:

Good luck,

This happens often on other board I participate on, on the other board is is not Drug use, it is the Communist Party issue, this too causes a denial, and a waiver needs to be filed to over-come it.

Sorry for Lynn... :( I know how applicants can be nervous during medical and interview. This happened before, even if the drug test will be negative, the Panel Physician will make a remark on the history of drug use/abuse... she could also make a remark that applicant be referred for a Psych evaluation, or if not... then the medical results will be forwarded to the USEM and it is upto the CO (adjudicator) to decide. But there has none so far that I know of that have been approved if they had taken or used drugs in the past.

My friend's cousin confessed he had used drugs and he is now banned to enter the US. All his family are here in the US.

There's one case of a 50+ year old man who confessed he had used drugs (marijuana) once when he was 18 years old and he was also denied and banned entry to the U.S. They even had hired Atty. Garfunkil about their case, but as what Atty. Garfunkil said, there is still no waiver for this type of case.

Let's just hope and pray for the best, but expect and be ready for the worst. Good Luck on your interview.

I'm so sorry for what your fiancee have gone through. :(

I was just wondering about the multiplication and addition questions, are they standard questions in medical exam? since when did mathematical aptitude correlated with physical well being? gosh, i'd feel being taken back to elementary days with the terror math teacher if i would be asked math questions. And if the math questions was precedent to the drug use question, i could totally empathize why she got so nervous.

I hope things will turn out for the better... I will keep you guys in my prayers.

There was a thread recently by a VJ'er who's fiance sdmitted at her medical that she had used drugs 4 years ago. Snce this is a lifetime ban in the Philippines for drug use, he decided he was movng to the Philippines. Although no should state on the forum that anyone should lie about this, those undergoing medicals should be very aware that the question may be ask, and what the ramifications of a yes answer will be.
