So yes, I do need that 5 dollars. This is the job of the people that love them not the job of government. That is what strong family values are for! It is up to the individual to be responsible for themselves. If they cannot then it is the job of their family. Then it falls to charities and the churches, that is what a strong spititual base comes in. They are 1000% more efficient at it. Never, ever the government! Not their job!

So, does an agnostic who has no family deserve nothing? Not everyone has a support system in the form of generous family and friends who can help out.

You're just unable to imagine that people might not be as fortunate as you are in having such a big close family with the idea that everyone should take care of everyone else. Some people are in different situations, and they have families who can't help them or are worse off than they are.

Why leave it to charities when the way the government does it works just fine? What is your criticism of the food assistance programs? Thus far, your "argument" doesn't seem to make any sense.

So why should someone else pay to feed you and keep you healthy? What did you do for them? This is your responsibility not everyone else's! If you can't figure out how to feed and keep yourself in good health then why should it be up to me?

The idea is that you're a member of a society (that dirty word again) and that you share a community with people who may need your help. Perhaps you benefited from taxpayer-funded services (ever had to call the cops? did you attend a public school? do you use the library or park? drive on highways?) at some point or will need to in the future. Plenty of people end up on government assistance temporarily who never would have imagined that scenario befalling them.

As much as conservatives want to deride the Big Bad Government, I don't see too many calling for privatization of the police force, or dismantling Medicare and forcing old people to pay for hospital visits.

I can't believe we're at the point where that needs to be explained.:help:

No as we're a practical bunch that understands it would be a waste of time to do so. We can only try to stem the tide of socialism in this country....

Liberals are only too fast to look down their snoots and pontificate to the rest of us what's best for us without any practical solutions. That's why liberals are mostly ignored. That pretty much sums up the socialist policies that the democrats try oftentimes to shove down our throats.

Frankly, who/whom was it that declared "Health Care" broken other than Hillary Clinton in 1993?

Why would Hillary, a (suedo)politician, with no known knowledge of the medical industry, the insurance industry, come along and tell us how to fix it?

Too many liberals with superficial motives...rarleyu ever thinking through the consequences.

If you really feel morally obligated to give your money away to the needy then look into some African charities. There's african children dying by the 100's of thousands.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Pretty much anyone who understands how health care is financed in the U.S.

There is no more generous person to my friends and family than I. For over the past year I have fed and housed my cousin Sarah age 19, my cousin Bobby age 45, my cousins ex boyfriend Corbett age 50, my cousin Bobby's son Danny age 27 (who btw spent 2 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and still has shrapnel in his knee from a morter shell), My disabled mother Ruth age 65 on top of that I support my darling Joy in the Philippines. On top of sending many hundreds of dollars of gifts to her and her family.

I do all the shopping, pay all the bills, I have been working 60+ hours a week at work for 3 years, while still talking to my Joy 4+ hours a night on yahoo messenger. On top of that my renters are over 2 months behind on their rent and I still have not kicked them into the street, while paying both mortgages out of my own pocket.

And if a person does not have a family member or church who can afford to pay a $60,000+ hospital bill if he/she gets sick? What then? Is your family the only members of the community you live in? Since when do we only care about people if we're related to them?

I'm curious, do you carry all those people in your house on your health insurance or are they uninsured? If so, will you be the one footing the $60,000+ bill if one of them gets sick?

Pretty much anyone who understands how health care is financed in the U.S.

Would you mind quoting some sources, and those that do not have a vested interest in applying social government fixes?

Might be a couple years old, but still relevant. If anything, we spend more on our healthcare system today, than we did in 2000 and our quality has not really changed.
