Hello all, Let me first say that this discussion group is excellent and I have learned so much already, so thank you! You have provided more informatoin than the couple lawyers I spoke with. And now I am debating whether I should even hire a lawyer, but I am worried about loosing time if I don't (but that's a seperate discussion :-)

My question is around which documents I need to get notarized for the initial submission of the petition to USCIS. I have read a lot of the posts around this but got a bit confused. Based on my understanding when I submit the initial petition to the USCIS, I only need to notarize the letters of intent to marry. Is this correct?

What confused me is somewhere it stated that the I-129F needs to get notarized as well... but only for the interview at the embassy (and should not be done much in advance). So when I submit my petition to the USCIS, do I not notarize it? But then would I be able to notarize it later for the embassy interview for my fiance?

And to be sure, what about the following two documents?

1) G-325

2) If I have letter from our roommate confirming that we lived together, does that need to get notarized?

Many thanks in advance.

Ezra

We had our birth certificate notarized but that was our choice, all our other documents were'nt notarized. I'm sure you don't need to. As long as you sign the statement either on a cover page or seperate page stating that all the photocopied documents your providing them are copies of the original then there shouldnt be a problem :)

In my opinion I wouldn't go with a lawyer either, I've heard some pretty bad stories about them making the whole process a whole lot more difficult.

Good luck on your journey :)

For the initial petition you do not need anything notarized. Some do but that is their choice. It says copies of the originals are just fine at this stage. u will definitely need the I-134 to be notarized but that is after the petiton approval.
