I just got an e-mail from our attorney. Evidently, the Family Unity section is now part of the immigration reform bill. She tells me I need to make plans to get married to Javier so that we will benefit from this, if it passes, then we would file the I-130 right away, before the Pres. signs it. Thing is, I'm not so sure I want to do that! When I get married I don't want it to be for that!!!! On the other hand, it would provide a small amount of relief to our case. I need input-any thoughts???

A lot of people here get married before they would have if immigration issued weren't involved. If you're planning to get married anyway, there's no reason to think that you're getting married "just for immigration" if you were to take advantage of something that will make your process easier and your reunificaation more speedy.

Good luck in whatever decision you make!

if it extends the length of time AND it would not be the wedding you have planned for .... it seems like a no brainer to me. why spend more time apart when you don't have to?

i guess like everything else ... make a pro's & con's list ... maybe we can help. what are the pro's and what are the con's at this point??

Pros...

We wouldn't have to file the I-601

We would be married

Cons...

We would have to start all over again with the I-130

We would have to wait probably 9 months for an interview

We would still have to file the I-212

I would be eloping-something I do not want to do

We would spend the first year (at least) of our marriage separate

KIDDING GUYS!!!!

Ita with you btw (no offense brother dean)...if you were getting married anyways (which i presume is why you're here)...then what's the diff? The gowns & flowers & stuff?

But I do agree with Bro Dean that only you should make your own choice...follow your heart....I know what *I* would do, but then again we're two different people!

So what exactly are these benefits then?

Why does it have to be like this? This up and down roller coaster marry or don't marry make decisions in an instant type thing? I don't deal with this stuff well...it stresses me out and I get nervous and upset. This whole thing I think is going to kill me.

We wouldn't have to file the I-601 waiver...for a lot of couples this is good since that means they get the Visa instantly! For us, it would mean we would only file one waiver instead of two-which leads to a higher chance of success and (possibly) a shorter wait time for waiver approval.
