Hello!!! My wife passed her interview and i must say that, being that she was 6 months pregnant at the time, NVC and US Embassy did a great job to get her package ASAP for the interview. It took about 7 days to get the papers to Embassy, do the medical and finish the interview. So if there is a similar case where someone's wife is pregnant overseas, send the doctors note translated to English to NVC and have someone from local US Embassy contact NVC and and submit a request for the package. I hope my experience will help someone else.

Now i have question and i hope someone can help. Immigration officer at JFK airport took the envelope, she did the fingerprinting, and got back only her passport. How long does it take to receive the Welcome package?

What is this Welcome package anyways? Will we get our original documents that were in the sealed envelope back?

We also applied at the Embassy for the social security card or the asked us if we wanted to submit request for SS number, does that mean we will get it in the mail? Or do we still have to go to local SS Center?

There is no Welcome Package - you get a I-797 which is a welcome notice that will give you your case number and A number (A number is already on the visa sticker). After that, in 6-12 weeks your wife should be getting her green card.

If you do not receive SSN in two weeks from the POE you can go to the SS office and ask for one - just bring her passport.

PS> DId your wife get the IV visa in Zagreb or Sarajevo (I know Sarajevo started processing IV visas in October)?
