Hi everybody,

I was just wondering, it might not be needed but I was told since my son was born before I became a naturalized citizen that we might need a DNA test. My name and the name of my wife are both on his birth certificate. My son is just 1 year and 6 months. I am planning on being there for the interview, I want to know also if needed if I can speed up the DNA requirement before the interview if necessary. I sure would appreciate any and evry suggestion. Thanks

Is it Fatima that recently had to have a DNA test for her son? Her son isn't even in Africa, he's born in the US and she had to prove she was the mother (#######?). Stupid immigration process is crazy. Anyway, look for that post, it's rather recent because they had a discussion about the DNA requirements which are new but seem to be wierd how they are being applied. If you're son is coming over on a K4, I imagine you'll probably need it.

Here is what I think.

Lately, the COs in have been asking for DNA tests for children. fatima_kamel (Ghana) was put on AP awaiting the results of a DNA test even though her child is a USC

To be on the safe side I would say go ahead and get the DNA test done, just to cut down on any possible wait times. But there is also the possiblity that the CO will not ask for a DNA test.

Its a hard one to call.

I should say first of all, that I honestly don't know. What I would guess though is that the consulate is only going to trust the DNA test that they authorize or request. So even if you tried to get a DNA test done early, they may not consider it. You can always try though!

You can do it ahead of time, but you're right, you have to use their approved practitioners. Omoba and Fatima both have lists of the approved ones in Africa and here in the US. If it's something you decide to pursue, PM them to get the list.

Thanks very much everybody, I guess I just have to wait and see. Though am not worried about it, its just the extra time that it might take. But all in all, with what one has been through in this process God has always been faithful. We shall have to see
