Anyone had to have the TB vaccination twice to meet req. of the I-693?

Good news my I-693 is almost ready!!! However I've just found out that my school never passed on the information that I had my TB injection to the doctors... GRRRRRR!!!

I'm wondering if there is a health implication of having this injection twice? And I was wondering what the proceedure will be when I get it done. I know I need to have it, and recontacting the school is not an option, it would be easier to get it done!

Please reassure needle-phobic-nicola!!!

I would call the clinic and get more information about the second shot. I do not believe that there are adverse effects, but you should definitely ask. Good luck

DH supposidly got all his shots back home, but had no evidence. He told this to the health people and they said that he could either get a blood test to prove he had had the shots, or they could just give him the shots again. He opted for the shots again because it was cheaper than the blood test.

well, if your last test was positive then you should not have to take the TB Test again but you will have to have your chest X-ray. But if you don't remember or it was negative, then you will have to have TB test again...

Hi,

usually Civil surgeon goes for PPD test .(Skin Injection test to demonstrate) . if it gets red means positive and then you have to go for chest X ray.If PPD test is negative (skin does not get red) . then you do not need to get x ray.

Note:It is duty of civil surgeon to fill I 693 completely and he determines which test is required for you.

There is no adverse reaction to having the TB test given twice. Often it's given & read 48 hrs later and repeated a week later to totally rule out a positive reading. It's just given beneath the very top layer of skin that leaves a tiny bubble in the forearm. Doesn't go in deep as the typical injection.

No physical problem getting it twice-apart from the pain.

But...you can avoid this by having your own doc run what's called a titre-which is a screening to see that you have the antibodies in place to prevent the disease. It's a simple blood test, and will save you the pain of that dreaded tuberculin test. Once you have written proof that the titre came back good-you can bring it when you have your exam.

My husband is doing this b/c there are no records of his vaccines.

I have seen The TB test done with my 8 year old, and it just sucks.

Have the TB test is less painful than a blood draw which requires going in a vein. TB test just beneath the skin.

That little bubble looks rough, and takes a while to heal...

I'd opt for the blood draw !

As others mentioned, it's a test not a vaccine. So I don't think there are any adverse effects.

If the test is given correctly the bubble will diminish within a hour or less. I've given them numerous times. Just feels like a sting.

BTW I've never heard of a TB titer test.

The TB antibody test is NOT that dreadful. It stung a lot for the first 20 minutes but after that I didn't feel a thing. It's hardly a life-threatening level of pain sweety... if they want you to have it again just do it. There's no danger in repeating the test unless you had a strong positive reaction to the last one. In which case you need to tell them that and then they'll give you a chest x-ray instead.

If its the TD vaccination we are talking about I had to have one done and then go back two more times for boosters.
