Does anyone here know of a health spa/retreat anywhere in India? Somewhere you can go to relax, lose weight, work out, yoga, massages, meditation, etc? If you know of any specific names please list them. Or searches or websites where I can look to try and find one myself?

Thanks in advance.

Why India?

Now don't get me wrong, I LOVED India, but it was one of the least relaxing places I've ever traveled to (I spent 7 months there during college). I imagine that once you reached a spa place that you might be able to let your guard down, but India is a total assault on the senses--crowded, dirty and smelly, but also breathtakingly beautiful, fragrant and exotic. If I was going there, I would want to spend my time exploring all the amazing places that India has to offer, not focusing on taking care of myself (through Yoga, massage, losing weight, etc.).

Maybe you've got loads of money to spend, but have you checked out airfare to India? It's pretty pricey.

My suggestion: do your spa vacation in Mexico. There are some wonderful yoga retreats in the Yucatan and I know of a beautiful place over by Ixtapa. You'll save yourself heaps of money and hopefully get the results you want.

Namaste,

Carolyn

P.S. Did you by chance read the novel Eat, Pray, Love?

FUnny you mention that novel... I was browsing at Borders yesterday and saw that and reminded myself to go home and get my 30% off Borders coupon so I could come back and buy that! I think its right up my alley! :)

I do plan to spend time at the spa, then travel around India afterward. I totally imagine what you're saying about it not being relaxing at all. But I think once I was inside a retreat all the regular daily lives in India would fade away. I just want to go and take care of myself, then travel.

Can you give me the name of the resort in Ixtapa? I also love Mexico and it is much closer. Just trying to feel out my ideas before I settle on anything!

Here is the Mexico retreat:

I used to teach Yoga classes with one of the founders of the center, CJ--she leads wonderful, rejuvenating classes. I haven't been to their yoga retreat, but the pictures sure look beautiful.

Best of luck deciding what you want to do!

P.S. Will your husband accompany you on your retreat? Mine (unfortunately) has no interest in traveling to any developing countries. I think his 30-some years in Morocco surrounded by poverty was enough for him.

My husband realllllly wants to go to India (he's obsessed with Bollywood films and music) but I don't know if he'd be joining me on the spa aspect of it. I can't picture him doing that at all. But he seems to love the idea of traveling to developing countries someday.

Thanks for the link. !

When hubster and I were in Goa we stopped in this VERY nice yoga center. Ashiyana Yoga was the name of it and while we didn't stay there, just had a meal, it looked like it would be a lovely place for relaxation. I'd also do a search on Goa Yoga or Kerala Yoga. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find something. If you make it to India... enjoy! There are lovely places that aren't dirty and hectic.

Namaste...

Also check out Rishikesh (North) and Hampi (South); I had meditation classes in the former. Hampi is a relaxed place and I'd be surprised if you can't find similar classes there.
