Hello All, I posted on here many months ago but I can no longer find my topic so I will ask again.

My Wife and I have been married for 9 months, She is an American Citizen living in Canada for the past 14 years as a Permanant Resident.

I am a Canadian Citizen.

We both work as Sign Language Interpreters and are interested in moving to Austin Texas to live and work.

I am not too sure which Visa to apply for, the K-3 or the IR-1/CR-1. I had a lot of information on this before from the previous thread but due to some problems I have lost it all and we are now looking into the option of starting up the visa process again.

If I remember correctly one of the issues might be that My wife Rebecca is not currently residing in the United States and has not done so for a 14 years.

We both have a numer of connections in the Austin area and would most likely be able to find work immediatly upon arrival if not before. It would be necessary for the visa that we apply for allow me to start work as soon as possible when we arrive in the States.

It is also important that we are able to travel out of the country without hinderance.

Thank you for any feedback that will help me as I research some more.

Also once again I apologize if this is a repost but I could not find the original one.

Can you apply through DCF in Canada? That would be a good option. You can apply for the Cr1 and K3 both, and see which goes faster. If you dont have a problem with doing the AOS here in the states then the K3 may be a good option, and I hear it can be faster. You can use both to travel in and out of the US.

It sounds like you may need a co-sponser though since you both live in Canada. I don't know much about that.

I'd say CR-1 would be a better choice for you. Since your wife is currently living with you in Canada, you can do the DCF. This should cut the waiting time. When you enter with the CR-1, you don't have to worry about EAD or AOS (unlike with K-3).

I'm sorry I can't answer your question with regards to her not having an address in the US. Maybe somebody else will chime in later.

HI everyone, thanks for the replies, I forgot to mention that we live in Vancouver, Canada.

I have been doing more research and it appears that Vancouver does have the DCF option I will look into that more.

Thanks for the info, everything helps.

You can go to the Vancouver Consulate to begin the DCF process, but as far as I know, the interview is held in Montreal. BUT the good thing about all of this is that DCF is now offered in Canada, which makes life much easier for people in your situation. There is a good overview of DCF here on this site, if you haven't found it already. :)

best wishes as you start the process! :)

From what I have read it looks like we can do the interview in vancouver. I might be wrong though.

Anyone Have any ideas about the Domicile thing? We don't really want to have her moving there first and having to wait for me. We are intersted in going together.

She has a lot of family in California, not sure if taht makes a difference or not.
