This is horrible news. I hope everyone here that has a loved one in egypt is fine. Please post to give us peace of mind that all are ok. My prayers go out to everyone that was affected by these terrible bombings.

CAIRO, Egypt - Three explosions rocked the Egyptian resort city of Dahab at the height of the tourist season Monday night, killing at least 17 people and wounding more than 150 at just one hotel, according to the doctor who runs the Sinai peninsula rescue squad.

Dr. Said Essa said he was headed to the scene of the blasts and that his casualty figures were for victims at the el-Khaleeg Hotel only. He said there were casualties from the other explosions but he had no details.

Al-Jazeera television said one of the blasts hit a restaurant, and authorities said more than 20 ambulances and police cars were rushing to the el-Masbat section of the city.

There have been a string of attacks in Egypt's Sinai peninsula over 18 months. They included al-Qaida-style bombings in the resorts of Taba and Ras Shitan in October 2004, killing 34 people, and in the resort of Sharm el-Sheik in July 2005, killing 63.

Groups claiming links to al-Qaida took responsibility for those attacks. Egyptian authorities say new Islamic militant groups have arisen in the peninsula, but they are still trying to determine if they have any real connection to al-Qaida or other international terrorists.

This is high tourist season in the region, and hotels all along the Egyptian coasts could be expected to be at near capacity. Dahab is located on the Gulf of Aqaba on the eastern side of the Sinai Peninsula.

ya Allah! Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji'oon.

My husband was working as an accountant at a hotel in Sharm last year during the bombings. This horrible feeling is unfortunatly all too familiar. :crying:

My husband is checking to see if his friends who work in Dahab are ok. He made a lot of friends who worked in hotels in resort towns, so it's very worrisome.

Rahma,

I hope they are all ok, I know how you feel. Last year when the hotels in Jordan were bombed, I spent countless hours on the phone accounting for each and every person I knew. Circuits were busy and it was difficult to get through. Please keep us posted, may god be with you and them in this very difficult time. (F)

How sad I hope everyone is okay from VJ and your friends. I know CrazyinEgypt and Mhafiz are from there. Will be remembering in prayer all of those in Egypt and their loved ones.

I hope all of your friends and loved ones came out of it all right.

These kinds of things are increadibly foreign to me, growing up in small town Wisconsin. I pray for a day when our children won't have to experience things like this (yeah right, in what world?)

My fiance has family in Dahab. When he heard of the blast, he tried most of the day to get ahold of someone, but of course the lines were bad. Luckily his family had not harm done. The blast was only 300 meters from where his cousin works. I was able to get through and talk to him later today and he was still pretty shaken up. My thoughts and prayer are with all the families there.

I did receive an email from Regina (CRAZYINEGYPT) and she said although she is in Cairo, many miles from the bombing, everyone is in an outrage and very upset.
