CR1 or AOS

I dont really have time to go thru the whole pros and cons but essentially the AOS process allows you to be re-united with your wife quicker whereas the CR-1 is easy to enter the US as you will have Green Card and employment status not long after arrival.

both do the same thing. Give you status as (conditional) permanent resident.

For CR1 you have to travel back to the country you live in for your interview.

For AOS you go to your local office.

In many cases, CR1 might be faster as already in progress while K3 is being processed.

It's basically a decision on whether to travel back or not.

You have already paid for your CR-1 so if you would maybe want to go back to your home country for a visit anyway, it might be a good option. AOS you would have to pay another application fee for.

What germanangel is saying is that if you enter the US on a K-3 and the approved I-130 is processing through NVC rather then remaining at USCIS awaiting AOS in the US, one can return to their country to do the CR-1 interview and then re-enter the US. You then have the greencard etc without having to do anything else except removing conditions when the time comes. Many opt for this way if money affords as it is much less hassle and quicker in many cases then adjusting status in the US.

Oh I see. I was confused, because our Cr1 was processed faster than the K3, thus hubby entered first with Cr1.

How long it takes to get an AOS appointment in your District Office.

How long it takes to get an IV appointment in your Consulate + how much it costs to go back 'home' + how much you'd like to have a visit back 'home'.
