What's For Dinner?

Our local county has just started a farmer's market on Thursday so I stopped there today and picked up some garden fresh veggies - swiss chard, lettuce, zucchini, sweet peppers, jalopeno peppers and leeks. So, I have made a home made pasta sauce using everything except the lettuce and adding ground turkey, tomatoes and lots of herbs. Having that over pasta with the lettuce in a salad with tomatoes.

I love reading about what Katherine is having for dinner. It's always so interesting and yummy sounding. You should have your own cooking show, Katherine!

Katherine and Joe eat so healthy! However, I've never heard of any man that eats pinto beans as much as Joe!

Last night I made a chicken Asian salad for supper with Ramen noodles and toasted almonds etc. I think we should have a Recipe thread for Ramen noodles.

I have had such a hankering for some good fish and chips. I was watching Barefoot Contessa yesterday and she made some. I'll bake the fries like she did and make the tarter sauce with light or fat free mayo- at least save on some of the fat and calories.

I'm not a big Rachel fan either, I think it's her hoarse voice that bugs me... I dunno there's just something about her that bugs me.

I can watch her - but I watch a lot of shows on the food channel. Could be the hoarse voice, could be talking a mile a minute? She has to do the darn meal in 30 minutes - barring cooking time I think any of us could make a meal in 30 minutes - however, what's the hurry? I guess if you are the kind of person who runs like a streak of lightning through every task, it might be appealing?

Or it could be that she just repeats herself so much. OR it could be that, because it's 30 minute meals we have to watch her chop and peel everything, unless they throw in a commercial.

roast beef with the left over pasta from yesterday done up in a cheese and basil sauce and steamed swiss chard with butter (fresh from the market yesterday - haven't had swiss chard since I left Canada! ) - oh, and more fresh lettuce with tomatoes and zucchini in a salad.

Hehehe, Joe and his beans - he would have beans at every meal if he could manage it! Not just pinto beans but any type of beans - it is definitely his favourite. Before we married, he used to make a huge pot of beans on the weekend, then eat that for every meal until it ran out or went bad. There is no way I could do that - I like variety!

So, we went to the pub last night (turns out it's called The Frog and the Monkey, not Toad in the Hole.... even if it is below street level. lol). We had the fish and chips and I had a Guinness and he had a lager and lime. So, while we're eating the entertainer for the evening shows up and starts setting up her equipment. So we decided to stay for the first set and ordered another round. Wow. She was amazing. She was about my age so was doing all the folk songs from my era on her electric acoustic guitar. She had a bunch of Canadian content, too. So we stopped by to chat with her on our way (and leave a tip) and I thanked her for the trip down memory lane and the Canadian content. But I got the impression that she didn't know those songs were Canadian, either, just like the guy the week before. lol. (Neil Young, Joanie Mitchell). I asked her if she knew any Gordie Lightfoot but she said she didn't..... even though her husband loves him and keeps bugging her to learn some. Maybe she'll have some the next time we see her.

We have decided that we are going out too early on the weekends and we need to leave later. I would have stayed through her entire thing if we hadn't been full of fish and chips and falling into a food coma. lol

I think we're picking up Mike's bbq chicken and collards this evening.
