My husband is like you LDora with his alton brown stuff, in fact just last week he found a restaurant supply store and bought a bunch of stuff... silly stuff imo. He went took culinary for a year in college before he switched over to design, but he thinks he's a chef... I'll admit he's an amazing cook but man Alton makes him buy silly things like pie birds and weird steamer contraptions.

I had to google what/who that was.

Going to a neighbour's barbeque tonight - invited over for hamburgers and a variety of picnic type of foods - salads, baked beans, you know the stuff.

Went to Chilis for lunch, so I'm still full. Had the soup and salad combo, garden veggie soup with a garden salad and garlic bread. Strawberry lemonade too so refreshing

Wife went out with her girlfriends...im staying hom to watch hockey!! Ordered for carryout Pizza hut P'Zones. have yet to try them, but they look yummy. Normally order calzones from a small mom/pop shop, BUT it has new owners, and this owner keeps his "work" dogs in these giant metal crates in the back of his truck!! He has a sign that they are workign dogs, used to sniff out bombs/drugs, BUT I have seen him in the open field "training" (for lack of a better word) these dogs!! And it was more of "attack" training! 1 guy had a stick and was shaking it at the dogs--more or less provoking the dogs into a rage!! Not sure what they were trying to do! it didnt look that "nice" They weren't hitting the dogs, but didnt look like an appropriate training session! So we no longer buy from that store.

Ack! How could I forget the pickles, lol! They're ONLY the best part of the burger...grr. I forsee in my future another trip to the grocery store before I start cooking dinner.

Flames, you're the best for discontinuing buying your calzones from those dog-abusing freaks! I used to volunteer at the animal shelter in Victoria, BC, and just today started volunteering at one of the shelters here in LA, and you wouldn't believe some of the things people do to "man's best friend."

One dog I used to work with was set on fire by it's owners, and had horrible third degree burns. Another one had a knife stuck into it's neck by a young boy.

Anyways, I guess I'm kinda veering off subject since this is "What's for Dinner" thread, haha...but yeah, I'm glad to hear those awful people won't be receiving anymore of your dough.

well, the best part of the barbeque next door was dessert! Two types of cake and the chocolate cake was to die for - yum! Now, I'm stuffed.

The Victoria SPCA on Napier Lane (right off Burnside.) I lived in a few neighbourhoods while I was there...Esquimalt, Gordon Head (Shelbourne area,) and Hillside. What about you?

I made the best ribs tonight in my slow cooker! I'm on a sugar free diet so most recipes call for BBQ sauce and I can't eat them. Anyway, I found a recipe for lemon pepper ribs. Here it is, it's SO good, even my husband liked it and can't wait to eat the leftovers. (That's rare!)

4 lbs ribs (I used country style pork ribs but the original recipe called for beef)

2 T garlic powder

2 T kosher salt

2 T cracked black pepper

3 lemons (6T lemon juice is equivalent)

Mix the dry ingredients together.

Roll/rub the ribs with the spice mixture. (I used some Adobo because I ran out of garlic powder. I also added some red pepper flakes because we like things a little spicy.)

Layer your ribs in the crockpot.

Juice 3 lemons over top of the ribs. (Or just pour your lemon juice over the ribs)

Turn your crockpot on high for 4-5 hours or low for 8-10. I recommend letting them cook low and slow so they get really tender.

I was worried that the ribs would be dry and tough but they weren't. They were juicy and delicious! You could put BBQ sauce on them and throw them under the broiler if you wanted to, but I thought the flavor was awesome without!

Lived on both ends of the Gorge at times,lol Rented a condo closer to the city,whats that gorge rd east?? Right across the street was a Tim hortons,lol There was an animal shelter fairly close to it. Adopted two cats from there. Then bought a house down near the river, guess that was gorge rd west. Loved that area. Vic was a nice place, much nicer than the DC area,lol

Last night we went to a new sushi restaurant by the Whole Foods. We both had the bento boxes. It was excellent.
