We had Backyard Burgers last night. Tonight I am making Wirral Hotpot. It's one of the recipes from the cookbook my family made for me when I got married. Link.

Wirral refers to the area of England where I'm from. Hotpot is a dish usually made with lamb, but sometimes pork, and contains leeks, potatoes, onions, carrots baked in a tasty broth. The recipe is from my aunt and uncle, who are now deceased. Their personalized comments make me smile and miss them. Anyway, the first time I made this my husband leaned over and slapped my arm. As I looked at him in surprise he said "This is so good it makes you want to slap somebody."

We're going out for dinner to Italian Oven with another couple we met through VJ who live in our area. Anna is from the Ukraine. Richard's birthday is on the 19th and Joe's is on the 26th so we are doing a 'birthday' dinner for the two of them. We had originally planned on going to a French restaurant that we like but they aren't open on Sunday evenings and Anna's work schedule doesn't allow for Saturday (and Joe's doesn't allow for weekdays, hehehe). Should be fun!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Tonight I am making lemon grilled chicken with rice... but the rice has fennel and snow peas in it and lemon as well. It will be yummy I imagine.

Mmmmmm. That sounds yummy. I'm not big on fennel, though, because I don't like licorice. Hmm. Maybe I should have posted that in the Recipe Swap Thread.

I have no idea, at the moment, what we will have. Maybe some type of seafood.

Heading out to the melting pot, love fondue!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
