UGH! When I first made green bean casserole for my husband I used frozen green beans and he almost had a fit! He told me it just wasn't right, that it had to be canned green beans. YUCKY! I can't stand most canned veggies, except for corn of course! Oh, and beets too. Everything else is just yucky.

Trailmix- I think if you use regular cream of mushroom soup along with the french fried onions, that's what makes it not very good for you. They're both pretty high in calories and fat, but oh so yummy!

I understand that Sprailenes! My hubby and I don't like the same things all the time. The other day I tried a quinoa recipe with black beans and corn. He said it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good! :P I loved it on the other hand. I wasn't disappointed to have all the leftovers to myself!

I can't stand mushrooms either, this just sounds so ... awful

So it's canned green beans, mushroom soup and ff onions..that's the green bean casserole people speak of? Or are their variations?

Oh my goodness Emancipation, I'm sorry! Sometimes it all gets mixed up in my head and I type the wrong name! My apologies.

Trailmix, add a little bit of milk to the soup and bake it for about 45 minutes or something and that's green bean casserole. I'm pretty sure that most people just make that standard casserole. I don't think that there are many variations, but I could be wrong! Now, I happen to really like mushroom soup, but I'm not so fond of this recipe, especially when made with canned green beans. Now I've made my own cream sauce with onions in it and a little cheese and then baked that with the green beans and ff onions, and I like that a LOT better!

Trailmix - Yup, the basic green bean casserole is canned beans, mushroom soup, a bit of milk and french fried onions. We only have it about once a year or so. I find it tasty, but generally just avoid canned veggies if I can (except for corn and black beans).

We had Thai food tonight .... hubby had pineapple curry with chicken (and of course I sampled) and I had beef with stir fried veggies in a Thai sweet and sour sauce. Very yummy! As we get free food for a year (hubby had bartered carpentry services), we eat there quite often and I am working my way through everything on their menu. The Thai sweet and sour is nothing like Chinese sweet and sour. Nothing fried and the sauce was very mild and light, not overwhelmingly sweet. We did have a huge dose of sugar in dessert though! We weren't planning on having dessert, but they just added a bunch of stuff to their dessert menu. I had an apple walnut cake with cider sauce (pretty good) and hubby had an out of the world coconut lime cheesecake. MMMMM!

That sounds so delicious Autumn (the thai food that is). Luckily we have a great thai food place here in Lake Mary.

well omg about the green bean casserole - at least I don't ever have to try it now that I know what it is

Frankly it sounds like something someone made up to get rid of a can of green beans

I havent been able to eat all day so Im going to feast for dinner. We went to Ruby Tuesdays for lunch, and I loaded up a salad and got the broc & cheese soup but couldn't finish it. Not for a lack of trying tho. Buddy went to Marc's to grab a few things, so maybe hell have picked out dinner also. After we make the Pepernotens we'll think of dinner.
