On Friday morning the flu hit me outta nowhere.

I am all congested and have a sinus pressure and Headache. It is awful, and what to do in a situation like this?

I haven't been sick since I 2 years. When I just got here I became sick but I couldn't go to doctors, because it was to expensive. As an Au-pair I made little money and the insurance was not covering anything. Also my host family wouldn't help me out because of previous experience with previous au-pairs. so I just sat home for 5 days and slept.

In Switzerland I could just go to the pharmacy and ask them nicely for antibiotics. Because they knew me they would give it to me.

Or I could call up my doctor and he would sent a prescription.

Know I am married have a great insurance but no doctor seems to work on Saturday or even take new patients.

Hubby hasn't been to the doctors for about 10 years therefore he doesn't have a doctor either.

Here in DC it is also hard to find a good doctor. there are so many you don't know who to choose.

I have the experience (no offence) that I don't understand some doctors because of their accent ( mostly from Asia, India, Turkey and so forth) So i am looking for an American because I would like to be sure whats wrong with me.

Now I am still sick and I just don't want to go to a urgent center. Maybe My OBYNG will be nice and gives me a prescription for this time.

I will now make an appointment with a doctor for in 2 month so if I would get sick again I am sure having a doctor.

Has anybody the same experience or different?

youre welcome... but don't misunderstand.. airborne is not an antibotic just large doses of vitamins that do tend to knock out some viruses... funny but i had to go take one myself since my throat started being scratchy... hope you feel better :star:

I've been sick more times in the last 3 years than the previous 20 years combined.

My theory is that the government lost track of some biological agents it was working on for weopons and they are slowly sprinkling anti-flu agents overhead to protect us all from a pandemic that they accidentally caused. This would also explain the increased number of low flying aircraft I've been seeing.

If you have the flu the best thing to do is to rug up, go to bed and rest up, and try to avoid catching a secondary infection. All the antibiotics in the world won't cure the flu because it's a virus not a bacteria - you only need antibiotics if you get bronchitis afterwards.

I agree that doctors in the US are pretty sucky and hard to see... DH got flu and it turned into bronchitis and he called the doctor and had to wait a week for an appointment. He was getting better by the time he got his antibiotics!

Yup... The flu is a virus, not a bacteria... so if you take anti-biotics, it's not helping, and you're only increasing your resistance to antibiotics, so if you ever do get a bacterial infection, it's harder to kick... The best you can do is rest, and drink lotssss of fluds...

Hi,

Sorry to hear your unwell. It snagged me 2 weeks ago, and was not pretty. I haven't been ill in 5 years, and it knocked me on my a**.

It's a wee bit late in the game, but next time you feel a cold coming on, go to the pharmacy and get some Zicam. It doesn't contain any drugs, and you have to begin using it immediately once you feel it coming on. I was cursing that I was all out of it when I came down 2 weeks ago. I now have remembered to keep some in my medicine cabby.

It's actually a series of Zinc swabs that are applied via the nasal cavity. It will cut down the time your unwell by 1/2. Great stuff it is ! A bit expensive, but sooo worth it.

hi there, sorry you are sick!

something also got to me yesterday morning...sinus pressure, sore throat, but also a runny nose, and I feel out of energy. It's no fun. But I don't plan on going to the doctor unless it worsens. As others said, the flu is a virus and antibiotics can't kill it, only resting, taking care of yourself, and time can. If it becomes a bacteria infection in your sinuses, throat or lungs then you would need an antibiotic. I just had a similar thing 4 months ago and I don't want to go through that again so I hope this time it's shorter!

I think if you don't feel better within a couple days then you should try to go to a dr. Unfortunately sometimes viruses can take a week or more to go away.

My sister works around kids and some kid is always sick, and she gets colds often, and I am around her a lot so I think it may be something I caught that way. She tried the airborne stuff but couldn't tell if it actually helped her. It's worth trying I guess!

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)
