We have had our phone number for 11 months now. Once a month, regular as clockwork, we get calls for the people who had the number before us. The companies, yes, it's plural, are collection agencies. We have spoken to them politely, explaining those people do not have this number any more, we have asked for supervisors and requested the file be corrected, we have yelled (me, not him, LOL), and still... oh jeeeeez, it's that week of the month again. We called the phone company who offered only to give us a new number... and start this again with someone else's history??

Yes, we are on the do not call registry, but it doesn't apply to creditors calling deadbeats. It's been ELEVEN MONTHS, people!!! come on!!!

Since I've been on the do-not-call list I hardly ever get telemarketing calls. But what's supposed to hurt them the most is this: once you've determined it's a telemarketing call, you say "Just a minute, I'll be right back". Then set the phone down and walk away. Check it in ten minutes, if he's still there tell him BRB again. This costs the telemarketing company money because the caller isn't calling someone else, he's stuck waiting for you. They know only 1 or 2 percent of calls are successful, so if you're not gonna buy they want to move on to the next.

done that a few times, cause i'm on the no call list. i still get calls from the sherrif's department wanting contributions. i of course ask them if they will erase that warrant for my arrest or my ________ (pick a number) speeding tickets

when someone calls wanting to sell me something, i usually get from them their name, company, etc, and then ask if they are profit or non profit. if profit, they are in deep doo doo, hello state attorney general!

just a suggestion i once pulled on a credit agency before i was on the no call list.....they wanted to give me a loan, i said great, cause i just jumped bail and need a bunch of cash. the silence was golden.

when i was dating a gal from arkansas, someone called and wanted to get her to contribute to some veteran's group. she just handed the phone to me....and i asked him if he ever served his country. he made the mistake of saying no.....

it went downhill real quick from there, as i informed him that as a retired member of the us military, i found it rather odd that this organization he was representing did not see fit to employ veteran's, and after about 5 min he was quite happy to end the phone call

although some will probably scortch me for the above, that's fine. after all, it's my home and my privacy. and i value such highly and don't enjoy being disturbed (which reminds me, i need to put out the "soliciters will be taken under fire" sign)

If you're on the DNC list, the second time the same place calls you, they can be fined $13k I think

LOL, I've done something similar! When I lived in Ireland with Aidan, some drunk party guys prank called and I picked up the phone. They were surprised to hear an American accent and asked who I was. I was like, "OMG, I LOVE your accent!! Are you Irish?!" The guy said, "Yes, are you American?" I said, "Well of course I'm American, you just called Florida!" :D

Needless to say, he hung up right away.
