I don't give them time to be rude fuzzness! the phone is down as soon as they 'hello...how are you today....' It comes with the territory of the job in my opinion....endless calls during the day make ME want to be rude.....now I don't even waste my breath.....I would be spending a huge amount of my time a day taking time to listen to them drooooone on without me even getting a word in just for me to say...nah, thanks but no thanks.

They know they have an aggravating job..... They just move straight onto the next number .....I don't lose any sleep on hanging up on a faceless sales person....5+ times a day I might add!

A telemarketer called me once to sell me DISH network or something, and I told her I didn't have a television.

That seriously threw her for a loop.

It was also, at the time, true.

I don't think all telemarketing companies are in that system (although i think they have to be)

there is a lot of money in the email/phone list business.

personally, i think telemarketing should be made illegal. it is, after all, just another form of spam.

I don't have a problem with them, unless they call me 10 times a day (which has happened!), and if they don't understand the words "no, i dont want/need it!"

I'm never rude to them, but maybe i was just a lil bit when they called me once eveyr hour of the day for 3 days straight!

I don't find this funny at all. Telemarketers are people too. They're just doing what they can to support themselves.

But I have has some that are just plain rude..

and it wears thin when you are getting 5+ in a day.....

Well think about it this way-you're getting 5 irritated phone calls a day which you can choose to ignore or hang up on or be ugly to them. This person as their JOB has to make hundreds of phone calls a day where they're cussed out, hung up on, or treated rudely. I would say that probably starts to wear on them a bit.

i get annoyed with telemarketers too. i just chose to hang up on them or not answer at all. im sure they dont like their job anyway, they're just doing it until they can find a better job.

Hanging up on them is not rude?

Since I've been on the do-not-call list I hardly ever get telemarketing calls. But what's supposed to hurt them the most is this: once you've determined it's a telemarketing call, you say "Just a minute, I'll be right back". Then set the phone down and walk away. Check it in ten minutes, if he's still there tell him BRB again. This costs the telemarketing company money because the caller isn't calling someone else, he's stuck waiting for you. They know only 1 or 2 percent of calls are successful, so if you're not gonna buy they want to move on to the next.

they just think the call never went through. i dont physically hang up on them myself, my phone will disconnect any call that is recognized as a telemarketer line

Ok, ok, I get the point that nobody likes being called at home.

But what about at work? As somebody who makes professional cold calls to other businesses (it's a necessary evil, not something I do for fun), I believe firmly that one should treat other salespeople the way that you would want to be treated as a salesperson - and if you're higher up the company, treat salespeople the way you would want people to treat your salespeople.

A simple "no thank you, I'm not interested" is often more effective than you think....

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.
