Wow - I found yellow wax beans at Kroger's here in Stockbridge. I love yellow wax beans and haven't had them since I left Canada - I've looked for them too. These are also Kroger's own brand, so that is cool!

If anyone can't get home right now due to not having their AP or AOS approved, I can most certainly pick them up something if they want it and ship it to them - consider it a Christmas present from me, I don't want reimbursement.. unless its super expensive .

I understand what its like to be homesick, so if you want anything I'll pick it up when I go back to the motherland and ship it to you upon my return.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm poutine.....

I still get wierd looks when I try to order Fries with Gravy and cheese. I mean some places already have chilli fries and such, why cant they just switch it out for gravy! I KNOW they have it in the kitchen dammit!

I'd hazard a guess though that if you ask for gravy in a US restaurant (especially south of the Mason/Dixon) you'll get disgusting white slop, rather than brown gravy. "Gravy" down here is made from buttermilk, rather than actual meat drippings. And I don't think it would be very tasty for poutine.

I've made my own poutine a couple times after I got here. The trick is finding the squeeky cheese. Its not a very common thing in the US outside of Wisconsin or Vermont (where there's lots of cheese makers). If you can find a cheese factory near you, they probably have curds, but I've never seen them on regualar store shelves anywhere outside of Wisconsin.

We're lucky here, there's a local cheesemaker who makes all different flavors of cheese curds. I haven't made poutine yet but I imagine it would be awesome with jalapeno cheese curds, or maybe the ranch ones!

I FOUND RESTAURANT MAKEOVER ON FOODTV HERE!!! I love this show! And I didn't know it was on here. I just assumed it was only on Food Network Canada, but Its on! Early in the morning, but its on! Yay! Im excited. I love Igor!

I've seen quite a few Canadian shows on here, RM and X-weighted and there are a few HGTV shows on as well. I don't watch tv much (not because I am a non-tv person - just want to make that clear )

No for real, I feel like such a douche for forgetting who did that for me on this forum! But someone did, and they sent me a box of aeros, smarties and other Canadian chocolates. It was amazing and really kind! It really brought my spirits up too. Dammit I wish I would remember! I know they were from DC and their husband worked at the Embassy.

If you're reading this you can kick me in the ### because I shouldn't forget such things.

But it really did mean a lot.

For those of you who order Canadian goodies on-line, is there a reputable website that you can recommend? I’ve been checking eBay sellers for Tim Horton’s coffee and Diana sauces, but I am finding the prices are all over the place.

You can buy Tim Hortons coffee at Wegmans if you have one near you.

I also found coffee crisp bars today at Wegmans... or do they already have those down here? I have no clue... I bought 2 though just in case.

I asked my sister-in-law if she could bring me some Mr Big bars when they come and she said sure but then asked, "aht about Kraft Dinner?" ...lol.. I guess I have told her that the Mac and cheese down here is different then in Canada ...lol

So speaking on the poutine thing, I just always figured it was more of a french thing rather then a Canadian thing. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have never had it before nor known anyone of my friends/family that has either. I remember seeing it more and more on the menus in fast food joints and restraunts in the past 10 or so years, but I just didn't know if it was popular outside the french communties.

Something about cheese curds, fries and whatever else is on it just seems like it would taste horrid. So has it alwyas been around outside of the french community? I just didn't remember it in the 80's at all...

I'm not sure about everywhere else, but I grew up in the 80's in Alberta and we always had poutine. YUM!
