Gary you hit hard enough to break a wheel, better get your car in the air. you might have some suspension damage. give it a good look & a shake down. if you've got damage it might be worth turning in to your insurance. knuckles, tie rods, a strut, ball joint & an alianment could get expensive.

Yeah I will. It's time for an oil change anyway. I will have the alignment checked out at the same time.

happy to hear you're ok gary! the one time I tried to drive on snow in my mustang gt at age 16 we spun around like 3 times. we were like oh shizzle and decided we were done driving for the day. my friend and I laugh about it now.

Actually it handled very well in the snow for a rear wheel drive. I am very impressed. It helps that it has 4 wheel anti-lock brakes and wide tires all the way around. It also helps that I have been driving in the snow for 33 winters. There is something to be said for experience.

wider tires are actually not good during the winter, a thinner tire provides more surface contact.

"That's because wider tires must carve a wider path through snow; that means more resistance and drag. Instead, experts recommend using a narrow winter tire. Narrower tires can more easily cut a path through snow and slush."

I don't know then, I never did slide even though I was braking hard and doing an emergency maneuver to avoid the truck. I just ran out of road was the reason for hitting the curb.

the camaro has wide tires and it's a pig on ice.

I guess I got luck then.

Bah! The one they had wasn't quite right. Ford has 3 different styles of the wheel I have. They had the "charcoal" one and I need the "silver" one. (the third one is the chrome finish) They said it will be in tomorrow morning. I hate the idea of running around in the snow on the spare but I guess I have no choice.

Boooooooo. If I had had the near-miss you did, I wouldn't be out there at all till it quit!

And I'm glad you're all right.

I told him not to go to work till everythings fix and maybe till snow is gone but he said it didn't work that way! :(

I still freaking out thinking of what happened to him last night, I don't want to be a negative thinking here but what if..? Really , it scared the hell out of me!! :crying::crying:

Here I am wishing everybody's safe and sound on my ''brrr, its cold outside thread'' without knowing It could be my husband..ah snow!!!!! :(:crying:

Thank you God for giving your protection to my husband , I love him so dearly even he is so stubborn ! :luv::D

 Very good idea, Gary. I once hit a curb (also in bad weather not due to bad driving skills!) going less than 20 mph and basically broke everything that attached the right front tire to the rest of the car. If it was a horse, I would have had to shoot it. I loved that car, but unfortunately my insurance company decided to total it out instead of have it fixed. When I told them that I was willing to pay for repairs myself, they told me they would refuse to insure it because it could never be made completely right again and would therefore be unsafe to drive. RIP Morgan, 1988 Honda Prelude.

In any case, glad to hear you (and the Mustang) are OK!

I drove it home last night and I drove it again this morning looking for a rim. It seems fine. Goes down the road nice and straight. When I took off the broken wheel this morning I looked it over real good and didn't see anything obvious. But just to be safe and to save some very expensive tires I will have it checked out.

Good! Chances are there is nothing wrong. After I hit the curb I immediately knew something was wrong. Poor car would basically only go in circles. But always better to be safe than sorry. Especially in bad weather.

Something interesting just happened. Yesterday Keystone told me that there was a $50 core charge for the rim. Since the new rim would not be in until today I decided to go somewhere and have the tire removed from the damaged rim so I could avoid the hassle of crediting back my card the $50 core charge. I went to a Goodyear store down the road from Keystone yesterday and asked them to remove the tire. This Goodyear store normally only does trucks and commercial vehicles but they said they would do it anyway. They took the tire off and gave me back the rim. I asked them to hang onto my tire until today because I would be back to have them mount it.

Today I went to keystone and picked up the rim. I then went back to Goodyear. The guy behind the counter remembered me and asked if I got the rim. I said yes and brought it in. He asked me to wait until a bay opened up. About an hour later I started wondering what was taking so long. I got up and looked through the glass and could see all three of the workers gathered around my car looking into the trunk. One of them looked up and saw me and then he waved me into the work area. They were all trying to figure out how the spare, jack and lug wrench went back in! I showed them how it went and chatted for a few minutes about how much they all liked my car. I went back to the counter and asked the guy what I owed him. He shook my hand and said "don't worry about it"! I said "really?" He said "yep, it was nice to work on your car rather than the big-rigs we normally work on". I thanked him several times and left. With the money I saved I took Luz out for a steak lunch. All in all it was a very nice day. I got my car looking good again, someone did a very nice thing for me and I got to have a really good lunch with my wife. To bad I have to go to work now but I guess you can't have everything!!
