Bah! The one they had wasn't quite right. Ford has 3 different styles of the wheel I have. They had the "charcoal" one and I need the "silver" one. (the third one is the chrome finish) They said it will be in tomorrow morning. I hate the idea of running around in the snow on the spare but I guess I have no choice.

happy to hear you're ok gary! the one time I tried to drive on snow in my mustang gt at age 16 we spun around like 3 times. we were like oh shizzle and decided we were done driving for the day. my friend and I laugh about it now.

Actually it handled very well in the snow for a rear wheel drive. I am very impressed. It helps that it has 4 wheel anti-lock brakes and wide tires all the way around. It also helps that I have been driving in the snow for 33 winters. There is something to be said for experience.

Boooooooo. If I had had the near-miss you did, I wouldn't be out there at all till it quit!

And I'm glad you're all right.

Oh, man! :o What a relief you didn't get hurt. What about chains on tires when it snows (that truck)? Doesn't anybody use those anymore?

He (the truck) was avoiding a SUV that was sideways in his lane. I think it was kind of weird that a 4WD SUV and a pick-up truck lost it and I was able to avoid all of them in a Mustang.

Thanks becca, Luz wants me to stay home until I get the new wheel but work doesn't see it that way. I will take it slow and careful on the way to work and back today.

wider tires are actually not good during the winter, a thinner tire provides more surface contact.

"That's because wider tires must carve a wider path through snow; that means more resistance and drag. Instead, experts recommend using a narrow winter tire. Narrower tires can more easily cut a path through snow and slush."

I don't know then, I never did slide even though I was braking hard and doing an emergency maneuver to avoid the truck. I just ran out of road was the reason for hitting the curb.

Gary you hit hard enough to break a wheel, better get your car in the air. you might have some suspension damage. give it a good look & a shake down. if you've got damage it might be worth turning in to your insurance. knuckle, tie rods, a strut, ball joint & an alignment could get expensive.

eta: not trying to eerk you just giving you something to think about.
