If a visa is issued, supporting documentation, including the K petition, birth certificate, Nonimmigrant Visa Application, and medical exam is placed in a sealed envelope and given to the applicant for presentation to DHS at the port of entry. We do not keep copies of these documents at the Embassy.

Do they really take your birth certificate, or do they just make a copy? If they do take the birth certificate, when do you get it back? I'm not clear on the process since the birth certificate is needed for AoS and is generally a good document to keep in your possession.

Also, are embassies ever willing to give the beneficiary a copy of contents of this sealed envelope, in case the PoE loses it (which I've seen several cases of on VJ)?

you bring both the original and a copy to the interview. They take the copy but may ask to see the original to confirm the accuracy of the copy.

The contents of the sealed envelope is your case file. You should have your own copy of it already. You don't get to see any notes they made on their copy.

You should bring photocopies of all your origional documents to the interview...the embassy actually recommend bringing two copies of each document.

I have have heard a suggestion that you ask for a copy of the vaccination sheet at your medical in case/ or to prevent delays with aos.
