Hello everyone, I was wondering how many ladies have changed there last name to there spouse's. I havent' changed mine yet. MY husband's interview is next month I want to change it soon, but NVC forwarded all our information to lagos and I sent them my original marriage license, has anyone had an interview in Lagos without changing your last name. Let me know... thanks is advance for your advice.... also i looked on the Social Security office website about name changes and if you don't change your last name before two years after marraige you have to show more proof than just marraige license so that is another reason I need to hurry with the name change... it will be our 2 year anniversay in April... also how many ladies have hyphenated there last name. My husbands name is pretty long and hard to pronounce how easy for me hard for everyone else... Ogidiagba :

I'm planning to use my previous name and my husband's name without a hyphen. But it was something my fiance and I discussed and agreed to. I personally chose to do this because I have a child from my previous marriage and wanted us to share a name. My fiance agreed with that decision. I think this is really something you and your husband should discuss and agree to. If you want to keep your name, talk to him about it.

I changed my name a month after I was married. I just wanted it all to be official.

Changed mine right away so I can submit all the petitions with my married name. Your last name is a mouth full. My old name was an unusual hispanic name and my husband's is a easier. It actually sounds more American now. Gotta hurry and change it cause you gotta do your passport too, but you need your marriage cert for that, and it takes awhile.

I'm keeping mine for now. Just haven't decided to give up my family name, I've had it for so long, I have a hard time getting use to being called by my married name. My husband says all of that is going to change once he arrives...we'll see.

I am all that the Potter created me to be.

I celebrate, liberate and dedicate my life to His Glory.

Uno, I had no choice :) I had told my family, a selected few along with my church elders that i was going to get married in Ghana so on my return I gave the message of love sent from my husband's congregation to my elders and I got outed right at the podium. "Sister ** has returned from her trip to Ghana and brings with her the love of the comcam english congregation and she also brings with her a new name." The whole congregation turned in theier seats to look at me. Half of them got it and were shocked and the other just looked at me and each other with questioning looks. I was floored. I am a very discreet person and at that point I wanted to disappear. I couldnt get mad though. The elder was just happy for me and everyone in my congregation is waiting to welcome him. It was weird at first because during our service whenever I raised my hand to answer a Bible question and they call me by my married name I would put my hand down because I thought they called someone else, it would take me a second to realize it was me.

I changed my name to my husband's name as soon as I got back home from getting married in Nigeria. I was so happy to be a Mrs. also my relationship is strained with my da's side if the family and they don't take pride in their name or their family so why be a part of that. My husband's family have so much pride and in their name and their family I just wanted to be a part of that as well it feels awesome!

Girl, isn't it funny. At work, I probably won't change my email because it'll confuse staff and since I work in HR, people need to be able to find me. But since I'm using both names anyway, it won't matter much. But I laugh because this woman at work says that I'll be like her the name we call her by is not her first name and the last name we use is from a previous marraige. So her social security card has a totally different name than the one we call her by. I told her I'm going to report her to the FBI cause she must have something to hide. But I'll be similar because I'm not fond of my first name because of what it represents so I don't use it except at work and then I shorten it because it's a double name which I think is a bit country.

Isnt it funny K&L. Here in US it seems that only the rich or famous are really proud of their names even if its infamous. But in my husband's culture having a good name is looked highly upon. It really means something to pass it on. Ecclesistes 7:1 talks about how a name is better than good oil and the day of death of death is better than birth. That shows how during the course of one's life does our name take on full meaning in whether we practiced righteousness or wickedness. Its nice to know I marriad into a culture that still values a good name.

I am hyphenated! Decided not to change it professionally, but otherwise I am known as Ms. MyLastName-HisLastName. He actually suggested the hyphenation, and our kids' last names will be hyphenated. This name change works for me because I see it as a bridging of the cultures. :D
