Gay Jesus play angers Australian church leaders

Jesus said he came not to abolish the Law of Moses, but to fulfill it. Since homosexual relations are explicitly forbidden in the Torah, a question of Jesus' "leanings" would certainly be relevant to his message.

Are there any stories that establish Jesus' sexuality, or indeed where he addresses or otherwise deals specifically with homosexuality in the bible? Just curious.

There is nothing to indicate that he disagreed in any way with Moses regarding homosexuality, nor that he violated the Torah in that regard, neither in the New Testament, nor in any contemporary historical referrences. On the contrary, he said that not a letter of the Law would pass away till it was fulfilled, thus putting his stamp of approval on what it contained, including the prohibitions against homosexual acts. There is also not a word suggesting he had relations with anyone till the revisionist Gnostic writings two centuries later (and I'm not sure that they had anything quite like that, either).

It is also of note that our categories of "gay" and "straight" were unheard of in the Bible or in the larger ancient world. Homosexual acts were spoken of, but there wasn't the concept of categorizing people by sexual "orientation" that we have today.

Well that's true - especially in the Roman world. And in the Greek - where it was ok for an older man and a younger man to have a brief relationship, but two comparable men going at it on a regular basis was a nono.

I'd dare them to put on that play in the middle east and change it from gay Jesus to gay Muhammed. I double dare them... Goodness! Freedom of expression, regardless of popular opinion, does has it limitations...

i think if Jesus (pbuh) was gay..he would have been stoned to death as he was spreading a new view of relgion and spiritulity, that went against the old order...and this would have been his death....as stoning was the accepted punishment for this offense....as it was a captial offense

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

The Muslims stood up for Jesus when even Christians will not:

Playwright Terrence McNally received a death edict, or fatwa, from a UK-based Islamic group, which declared it blasphemous when the play ran in London in 1999.

(from the original article)

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

I think in the Greek world, that the punishment for being homosexual (as in openly homosexual with a man of similar age) was being tied up in public and having a radish stuffed up your #######.

lol...some of the lads enjoyed the radish punishment
