ditto for white gold :)

The only surprise I've had with my engagement ring, is that the white gold kinda rubs off on the band under your finger, and the gold color shows through. You have to go get it re-dipped in white gold again.

I like my ring. the only thing I dislike is that the wedding ring has only diamonds on part of it and that part keeps turning and the diamonds wind up always facing down, so you can't really see it. And no, I won't get super fat so the ring won't move on my finger and always face up, that's not an option. And I can't always be on my period bloated, so oh well.

oh, now answering, i like it white, yellow gold is for grandmas

My wedding band does the same thing. Everytime it happens I say to myself I have to get it sized a 1/2 size smaller. Then there are days that I can't get my ring off my finger... like after a night of partying and drinking, and then I remember why I don't.

But at least sizing is an option with gold, on platinum you can't change sizes, so you are stuck for life!

We have white gold.

DO NOT GET WHITE GOLD.

White gold is plated with rhodium, which used to be very cheap, so a lot of couples got it as an alternative to platinum. However, it needs to be re-plated every so often. And now so many couples have white gold rings that rhodium is in very short supply. We got married in mid-2004. The first time we got our rings re-plated in late 2005, it was $10 per ring. We got it re-done in mid-2007 and it was $65 per ring because rhodium has become extraordinarily expensive and it's not projected to ever get cheaper. Unless they discover a lot of it somewhere they don't know about yet, it'll just keep getting more and more expensive to do the maintenance on the rings.

engagement rings - the big trend right now is white metal and princess cut (square). wedding bands for women again white metal, with or without diamonds. men, white metal with a simple pattern. of course this varies on culture and personal preference.

You can get your rings set together. A lot of people are doing it these days and it prevents the diamonds from spinning downwards.

Our rings are silver filigree - neither of us wears gold and we didn't have a lot of money - besides you can get some gorgeous silver in Nepal. We orignally found matching silver filigree bands in a shop in Patan and exchanged then at our engagement ceremony at his house. About 1 month after I came back to NY I had taken my ring off along with thr rest of my jewelry before I took a shower - when I was moving furniture afterwards the brass bowl that I keep my jewelry in tipped over and I haven't been able to find the ring since then... Govi did send me a replacement and at first I was sad because it is not exactly the same pattern as the original but I have come to love it because he chose it all by himself for me. In Hindu tradition the bride also wears a gold pendant called a mangalsutra which is actually more significant than the wedding ring. In Nepal married women also wear glass bead necklaces called pote mala - most just wear pote mala every day and only wear the mangalsutra for special occasions - this is what I do as well.

A jeweler near my place said that he can put two small gold dots on the inside of the band that would keep the band in place by tightening it just a little bit. Like a marker to keep it facing up.

Mine is white gold. I like platinum, but it's so soft that it seems to dent pretty easily.

Oh, and his ring is made out of tungsten. Dark and very shiny.
