I think you have to have all the vaccines done BEFORE you apply for AOS. I'm glad they don't require it for US citizens, yet. :P I'd just say I've been with 3-4 guys to get out of it!

Well, according to the sexual health clinic here they told me that if you've been with 3 or more partners that they don't recommend it and won't give it unless you're tested negative for HPV and you really want it. That's what I don't get about this. It's being proven that if you've got HPV and get the vaccine that it can actually cause lesions on the cervix. Not only that but the vaccine doesn't even completely prevent cancer, it says that it MAY prevent it. It's all about the money!

I found this on the USCIS website:

(J) Special Considerations for K and V Nonimmigrants . The plain language in section 212(a)(1)(A)(ii) of the Act regarding the vaccination requirements refers to applicants for immigrant visas and for adjustment of status. Applicants for visas under section 101(a)(15)(K) or (V) of the Act are not applicants for immigrant visas at this stage of the process. DOS and USCIS have agreed that the required medical examination for K and V nonimmigrants outside of the United States will include the vaccination assessment described in section 212(a)(1)(A)(ii) of the Ac t. The vaccination assessment will be performed in anticipation of the adjustment of status application, to give the applicants the opportunity to retrieve the records for those vaccinations they have already received, while they are still abroad. Individuals in the United States applying for change of status to V will not be required to undergo a vaccination assessment in conjunction with their medical exam, but civil surgeons are not precluded from advising them about the vaccination requirements in antic ipation of their adjustment of status application.

While some panel physicians may elect to indicate the vaccinations already received on the vaccination supplement, consular officers will not refuse the K or V visa and CBP officers will not refuse admission to a K or V nonimmigrant, solely because all of the vaccination requirements have not been met. When the panel physician's report indicates that the applicant lacks certain required vaccines, consular officers will attach a single-page addendum to Form DS-2053 (Formerly Form OF-157), Medical Examination for Immigrant or Refugee Applicant , and the accompanying worksheets, advising the applicant of the need to comply with the vaccination requirements upon the application for adjustment of status in the United States.

The link is here: http://www.uscis.gov/propub/ProPubVAP.jsp?...e84e0e53a4768d1

I don't know, but to me that says you don't have to have your vaccinations if you don't want to before you go to the US and then adjust status. I'll get all the rest of my vaccines updated but I'm not having that one!

yeah, for fiance visa you don't have to have the vaccines until you apply for adjustment of status. Once you start your AOS, though, you'll need to get all of the required ones.

This isn't referring to anyone, I'm just posting!! But people really should make sure they know all the info on HPV and getting this info from authoritative websites and professionals. They say approx 50% of women could be affected with HPV sometime during their life!! One can pass this to a partner, and even to their baby, it is a very series disease. Yes HPV may turn out to be nothing serious, but one definetly should be getting things checked and "play" safe! Maybe because I'm a RN student friends open up to me, but 1 friend I know has HPV, and she has only had 1 partner! if your sexually active, ensure your getting a pap smear yearly (some say every other year, depending on age, etc etc)

And again not pointing at anyone, just what I have seen during clinical and what other students have told me--What the spouse says in front of their other spouse during a medical interview, isn't always the same what they tell you when they are alone with the DR or nurse, if you get my drift! Many spouses sort of keep somethings to themselves, which the other spouse has no clue of, especially when it comes to being sexually active or pregnancy! having HPV doesn't make you any less of a person, or "dirty" just means that the health professionals have to keep an eye on you a bit more, and realize it can be passed on to other people, so play safe!! As well I'm not saying this "shot" is the answer either, has I have not read much about it. Not trying to scare anyone, or change their mind aboys getting the drug, just make sure your making a well informed decision, not going off crummy websites, blogs, or your aunt betty who is doing hard time in the prison!! Cheers

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I'm with you Flames.....I wish it was mandatory like Measles and Mumps....it just makes common sense to protect yourself against something that more then likely you will esposed to at some point in your life.

I am having a hard time keeping my tongue when I hear people chirping about having it promotes promiscuity if you do a mass vaccination in teenagers....my aZZ it does. Peer pressure, society and bad parently promotes promiscuity...but no one wants to point fingers.

My daughter and I talked about it, she's just turned 16 and not active yet, but hey...I'd be dumb to think it wasn't coming soon...so she's going to have the vaccinations.

I'm not saying people should get the drug, or not get it, not my job. I'm just stating that people should be well aware of how serious HPV or other diseases can be and make WELL informed decisions! Like I and many have stated in other post, wikipedia isn't a super duper place to get your info, lol

What flames and U&W said. Do as much research as you can not just about the vaccine, but about the virus that this vaccine would be protecting you against. Know all the facts, and make an informed decision.

On a side note, I'm wondering if this vaccine is being required in Canada for K-1's is it required for K-3's (if you meet the age requirement)? What about medicals in other countries, is it being required? I'm assuming if its a DOS requirement (maybe recently enacted?) they should release some official notice on it, no?

The only thing I'd ever tell anyone is to be well informed. I'm saying this to you Wiz, if you're going to have your daughter vaccinated for this. This is particularly because of the fact that this vaccine is not guaranteed to protect against cervical cancer. The other thing is that it only protects against 4 out of 127 strains of HPV, which isn't really all that significant.

I guess just do your research. To me, the benefits way are not worth the risk in this case. Not when girls are dying and becoming disabled because of the vaccine. It's up to you.

When put that way it doesn't seem significant - but those 4 strains cause 70% of the problems - which is significant.

Anyway, I think it should be an individual's choice.

Good point Trail...here are the stats I found:

HPV Types 16 and 18 cause 70% of cervical cancer cases, and HPV Types 6 and 11 cause 90% of genital warts cases.

Cervical cancer is deadly folks. It's a cancer that gets fluffed off by women themselves and by their doctors. My friend's mom died last year because it wasn't caught at an early stage..although she had lots of warning signs, they thought it was just from stress, the holidays or whatever.

Obviously regular medical check-ups can help...but you only go once a year for your pap....nothing prevents something odd from occuring during that year....maybe, just maybe...the mom's cancer was caused by one of those strains? Who knows now...but wouldn't it be great if she could be here today.

Anyway...I like prevention myself, healthy diet and all that. But hey - if they can offer something more, I'll take it anyday

There are so many facts and statistics out there, and a lot of them differ. I've read many things lately and it's hard to know what to trust sometimes. I suppose the issue I have the most with this vaccine is that they're marketing it as a prevention to cervical cancer when that's not actually the case. The vaccine itself says that it MAY protect, there is no guarantee and in some cases if you have a strain of HPV, the vaccine can cause lesions. That being said, if they want to market it as an HPV vaccine, then it should be marketed to EVERYONE, men and women alike, not just women. Men have HPV too, and more often than not spread the disease without realizing it.

As a side note, not to say that cervical cancer isn't something we should be concerned about, it is on a downward trend though, which is good. I guess that's why I'm less concerned about the cancer and much more concerned about the side effects of the vaccine. Maybe if the vaccine guaranteed prevention of cervical cancer then I'd be more inclined, although I doubt it. Having someone put live, mutated virus inside me? No thanks!

Men can have HPV, but there is no method to test for it at this time!!

Im not sure if cervical cancer itself is down, the death rates have decreased, but thats most likely due to improved detecting/treatment methods, which more than likely use drugs, which all have side effects, which some can be deadly. Does that mean one doesn't go forth with the treatment? Just throwing that out there. Everything has plus and minuses and one has to make the best decision for THEM!

You are absolutely right Flames! In no way am I trying to force my opinion on anyone. I believe that medication can work for a lot of people, and is sometimes the only option, but I'm also a firm believer in trying to go the natural route first.
