The actual instructions for the I-129F state that the passport style photos of the filer and beneficiary should be "glossy". Yet, as I understand, passport style photos are usually non-glossy, and in fact, the photos that the beneficiary should have down the road for the actual visa should be non-glossy. Has anyone else paid any attention to this detail, and, if so, how have you dealt with it?

It's probably something that I shouldn't worry about, but I don't want to give the USCIS any reason to issue an RFE or NOID or in any way slow down the process. My thought is that glossy vs. non-glossy doesn't really matter for the photos sent with the petition, but I'd like to hear what others have to say about this.

Thanks!

We had ours done together in Scotland and they were glossy (if I understand what 'glossy' means), had them done in one of those passport booth things.

I'm hoping their specifications on this is a minor detail they don't care too much about though too, to be honest. Because it also says have a white background, I noticed, and ours was actually a bit greyish, so :(

Good luck to both of us. I wouldn't think it's that big of a deal though, either way. But I think ours were glossy.

Thanks for the replies.

Based on the fact that so few have replied and from reading other previous posts on VJ about these photos, I would surmise that a) most people haven't paid any attention to the glossy vs. non-glossy issue and B) very few (if any) people are issued an RFE or NOID because of the photos submitted with the petition. After all, these are just file photos. I would further speculate that it's much more important that the photo which will eventually be used for the actual visa should meet the specifications issued by the State Dept.

At least that would be my take on this issue, based on what I've seen so far.

My photo wasn't very glossy, but his was. No RFEs before approval. I don't think they really care as long as they're not computer printouts on paper.

Good luck!
