Oh man, if you've got it, bring it! You don't have to spend it, but to have that kind of cash to fall back on would be a wonderful, wonderful thing.

Definitely a case where "more is more"

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

Technicaly I don't 'have it', it's what I was planning on saving before I get there; that's why I was curious about whether it was excessive or not, since it's gonna take a while to save and delay my arrival.

To put it in perspective for you, when I said I arrived with $800, I really did! I signed off a cruiseship and entered on a visitors visa, so I had only clothes suitable for the Gulf of Mexico - which needed to be supplemented pretty quickly, arriving in Maine in the middle of a wet snap! My now hubby was gigging sporadically and claiming unemployment, and I couldn't work. It was hard, we ate through his savings, but we made it!

I wouldn't recommend it as the way forward, but if push comes to shove you'll get by with whatever you have! It also depends if you're willing to sacrifice quality of life in the initial instance in favour of getting there a little quicker. I drive a 16 year-old car and we live in a one-bed apartment, but I'm here with my hubby and we can work up to grandeur!

You'll be fine, however much you can or can't bring; but the more, the better goes without saying. If you come with $30,000, you won't face a lot of the issues most of us do with money being tight whilst you can't work, but you have to offset that against the length of time it will take you to earn it and your desire to be with your fiance.

Good advice.

Currently earnng, £600-£1000 p.w, so I'm gonna say it'd be a lot easier earning it here than there; especially since exchange rates are favourable, and don't look like changing.... but maybe $30,000 is excessive.

Thanks.
