Feminism is about women having the same rights and compensation as men, and rights to our own bodies. That's pretty much it.

Women already have the same rights and the rights to their own bodies.

Same compensation.. I'm not sure what a President can do about that. We're moving towards it, albeit slowly. That's more a matter of corporate culture.

That first statement was naive as all get out, huh? I mean come on, women's rights to their own bodies are seriously under siege. Roe v. Wade could be overturned very soon if we don't elect the right person. Women's rights in many obvious ways are the same, but not in all ways. Especially in the rights that aren't one-size-fits-either-gender.

Second, I'm explaining what feminism is about, not what what a president can do for feminism. I felt like it needed to be explained from your comments, which led me to believe you don't really know what it is. :)

Roe v Wade won't be overturned. If you think that's a serious threat, you're the one whos naive.

Why do you say that?

If enough people clamor for that one thing, then that one thing can be changed.

eta: if you look at the court, you can see that it could happen in the next decade.

There are a lot of people that vote based on likability. You may not do it but there are enough that hate Hillary so much that they would vote for someone they don't agree with before they could hold their nose and pull the handle for Hillary. Most of the electorate goes from the gut rather than the issues from what I see.

I hate raw onions, but given the choice between horse radish or onions on my sandwich, I'm going to choose onions. It would be nice to make the sandwich how I want it, but in a two party system, my only choices will be onions or horse radish...everybody's going to choose differently I don't think too many of us are going to be overly excited by our choice. I know how you feel about McCain. :P

I've got to go hit the gym so I'm bowing out for now. :)

My opinion is this: If it's Oboma vs any rep then Oboma will be the next president. I really think that. But if it's Hillary vs any rep then a large number of people that would have voted for Oboma would stay home rather than vote for her. Sure there will be some dems that feel that any dem is better than any rep, but Hillary evokes such a strong negative reaction with some people they will just stay home rather than vote. That will give the rep a decided advantage. If a third party comes into play like Bloomberg then a rep win is very likely.

I am not picking an abortion fight with you, but if enough people clamor for something and it happens isn't that the way a democracy works?

Yeah a Clinton nomination will galvanize the base. For all the wrong reasons, of course. I'd much rather see a GOP excited by one of its own candidates. Instead, we're seeing a party divided into little bitty fiefdoms, of which sponsors a candidate and hates all the rest. The only thing that can unify them this year is Hillary.

If voter turnout is high, they (Republicans) don't have enough votes to win in November, no matter how excited they get seeing Hilary's bare ankles. Giuliani would have the best chance of beating her, but none of the other candidates.

I disagree.

The Hillary haters are loud but I contend that most people's negative impression of her is fuelled by these loud voices. In the final months towards the general election, she could easily squelch those negative impressions of most...at least to the point where her negatives are much less than her opponents. You've got to admit that there is an element of misogyny among the negative feelings aimed at Hillary, that no convincing will change.

Some of the most rabid Hillary haters I know (at work) are women. I think you underestimate how many people see her as some kind of leftie satan....

If you poll VJ, you can bet your sweet azz it will be white men.

I totally see your point. But not in the Supreme Court. We appoint them to interpret the law in a way only a legally trained mine can. I doubt any check or balance in a climate that would produce a court that would go for overturning Roe v. Wade would cancel it out.

I work in a building full of union workers. While the union bosses tell them to vote for Hillary almost to a man they say they would stay home if they had to vote for Hillary. To be honest I haven't found anyone that thinks she should be president. And I disagree with Steven about Rudy being the only one that can beat Hillary. McCain is polling very well against her.

Please clarify, this makes no sense.

You know, arguing a medical procedure in the political sphere has always struck me as being somewhat silly. Frankly, I'd support a constitutional amendment to explicitly allow abortion (or ban attempts to ban it?) if it made the issue go away.

Ya, cuz they can go in and vote for anyone else they wanted to. Not like the boss is watching.

Too bad the white men in power make the decisions about (our) uteruses.

The union locals have been encouraging their people to vote for Clinton. The guys I talk to say to hell with what the union says, they will not vote for her. They also are telling me that if Hillary wins the primary they would stay home rather than vote for her. This is only based on the 20 -30 union guys I talk to at work.

Why stay home? Why not go in and vote for a candidate they like? Or even a 3rd party candidate as a protest vote? Isn't an empty ballot better than no ballot? JMHO.

And those (20-30) union (GUYS) you know - are they the ones who won't vote for Hillary?

Hillary won 7 out of the 9 at-large precincts in Nevada. You know - where all the culinary workers voted? Their union endorsed Obama. ;)

Definitely it is. Too bad they don't see it that way.

But Oboma got more delegates from Nevada. How did that happen?
