Ashley: I always thought once they were here they were legal. I don't know what kind of paper work they have to do but it is different for them because of the state of their country. I know I have never seen anyone on here from there. I really don't know where you would find anything about it. Maybe someone else knows some information

That's what I have always heard too. I am sure there are some kind of papers they need to fill out. I just don't know what. I mean, the government has to know they are here before they become legal or whatever. They don't just get papers because they set foot on US soil. She still needs to contact someone to find out what she needs to do to become "legal".

We need to go ahead and get our tickets. I just hate doing anything that far in advance. Last year when I was looking at tickets in Dec. they were around $600. I just checked them and they are only $300. I know it will keep going up and up the closer we get to Dec. Especially since we are going so close to the holidays. We aren't leaving until the 15th and coming home on the 24th.

Holy cow Charity….are you already planning to buy tickets to go to Mexico in December?? You guys sure plan in advance. Though we should probably do that too….since it is true prices jump so high over the holidays no matter where you go.

But that is about 9 months away……you might have a little present to bring with you!! I am crossing my fingers for you and Javier! :luv:

FYI:

Have all of your guys registered with Selective Service. I know most of our guys are under 26 and therefore they have to be registed to become US citizens. I made Alex do this when I found out that even though he was here illegally he had to register. "Failure to register may violate the Military Selective Service Act. Conviction for such a violation may result in imprisonment for up to five years and/or a fine of not more than $250,000." We definately did not have that kind of money sitting around.

It asks on the N-400 Naturalization form for the SSS information, see attached photo from the document:

Here is the Selective Service website that lets you register online. The only thing is you have to have a valid Social Security Number to register on-line, other wise you have to mail it in.

Benita: Javier registered when he got his DL. In NC, if you are a man, you have to register or they won't give you your DL. I wonder what we need to do because it would have his ITIN number instead of his SS#.

Stephanie: I know it is really in advance but I also know the tickets will be sky high in no time. I just don't want to have to pay so much for them. I already have the time off from work so unless something happens I know we will be going. The only thing I am not sure about is getting pregnant. If it is close to my due date, I wouldn't be able to go. I will probably wait a few more months before I actually buy tickets. I was just bored yesterday and didn't have anything else to do so I thought I would see how much they were.

Charity...totally understand. Yesterday I was bored and looked for prices to go to the Bahamas. :D If we want beach it'll be cheaper to go to Mexico. But we won't be able to tell the in-laws we are going to the beach in Mexico or else they'll want us to visit them too!! My boss and co-worker just went to Mexico (separately and to different places) and I am so jealous of their tan and photos. Crystal clear blue water, white sandy beaches....ahhhh...the envy.

Benita...Miguel registered with the selective service years ago. They found out about him when he applied for his state ID. We actually called an atty about it wondering if he had to register which was also around the time the atty asked us when we were going to file for his papers. Kind of a blessing it came, I guess. I mean we were going to apply for his papers but hadn't really thought about it at the time. We had been married for 4 months and were broke. Ironic to think it was signing up for the draft that got our act in gear. Got a question, though, if any of you know the answer. He signed up without a social. I mean it has all his information but no SSN. Do you think we need to contact them and add it so there won't be any problems with citizenship? I'll ask our atty too.

I would love to go to the beach in Mexico. I hope we can take some time to go when we are down there in December. His whole family will want to go with us. I would really like to rent a car the next time we go. I would really like to drive our car but it would take us three days to get there. Well not really, it didn't take Benita that long and she went further down than us. Maybe I will throw that idea out to Javier. You had the same question as me about the Selective Service. I don't know what to do about them not having Javier and Miguel's socials. I guess we would need to contact them to let them know. Where would you find a contact number?

I asked our atty that question this morning in an e-mail and he responded that it isn’t necessary to contact the selective service people. He said the important thing to have for the citizenship stuff is the selective service registration number and the date they applied (which is all on the card). I kept all the notices and other ####### from them so I’ll check for a phone number tonight to be extra sure it isn’t necessary to update the information.

Back to the salt mines I go……………..
