We have always had disagreements in this forum, but everyone was always able to look past them. We used to be a family where we supported each other, agreed to disagree and move on. What has happened to us? Now people are claiming fear of posting due to repercussions ? What is going on here?

It is a teriible shame that we are losing Omoba, she was, (and still can be) a great asset and a wealth of knowledge to so many people. Who knows if we will ever hear from her again. I know that I am very sorry to see her go.

We never used to be this way, I have seen people disappearing from VJ b/c of this crazyness that has now spread into our fourm. Can we all make a conscious decision not to let this happen in here? We have so much to offer to other people who are passing through the same things that we are. I would hate for people to be afraid to post out of fear.

I am not attacking anyone with this post, I am asking everyone to remember why we all came here to VJ, and what lead us to stay and build relationships in this forum.

Per, Im sure O was frustrated. She was trying to do something fun and positive. It was a book club and it seems it wasnt even able to get off the ground because some havent received it and it was hard staying positive when there were so many off topic posts and negative comments about it from those that have not even read it. It was frustrating to have to keep defending the author or book and stay positive. Some were so tenacious about it. Not supportive at all. I dont know...I really looked for to it. I have the book and was excited about seeing what others who read it got out of it. ::shrugs:: of well. Maybe we can do it somewhere else.

Well,

I am awaiting my book and I still intend to read it when it arrives in my hot little hands. As for the thread, I believe sticking to the topic is always the healthiest thing to do for all who are concerned or are truly interested in being part of the Sub-Sah forum. Let this be a reminder that even though this is a public forum, there are rules (Terms of Service) that we all have to abide by.

The longer it takes to introduce yourself the less you've actually accomplished

Just because we have the right to do something doesnt mean its the right thing to do!

I'm afraid I agree with you. And I'm struggling because I'm trying to analyze my behavior and realizing that perhaps it's futile. Sometimes, you think that you can have a conversation with someone online, but realize when they are only reading your words looking for a way to respond, rather then taking it in and processing it. In every book club I've been in there have been negative comments about the book. But NEVER by people who didn't read the book. It's crazy to me. And crazier that people aren't able to check themselves and realize that. It's also hard to stay silent and ignore the behavior when it keeps coming at you. You want to be on topic and talk about the book and the issues, but there are these stumbling blocks that won't go away. Then my big mouth opens and I start to type. It's really hard. And it's harder because you are only responsible for you and even though you want to get something good out of the forum and the topic, you can't make other people be responsible for what they post.

I just want to add that most of the people who say they are made afraid to post or will stop posting are the most prolific posters. So, I don't feel upset at all, rather it's like a childish guilt trip that I just can't buy in to. You came on to a thread, derailed it, then you pout and say you're going to stop posting. Well.......I won't hold my breath.

Sister O had other reasons for leaving. Sorry to butt in, however I know this woman and no, she did not just cut and run out of frustration nor did she have a ' childish guilt trip ' . Iam not at liberty to discuss her motives, but do carry on...

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Sorry for speaking for you..

But Zainab was not referencing Omoba. Omoba was the original poster of the book club thread, she did not derail her own thread.

Things seem to have calmed down a bit, I really do hope that everything will get back to the way it used to be and people will not be afraid to post when they need to. VJ can be just what people need to support them as they go through this process.

I do miss Omoba though...

Maybe if we all chant her name....

O-mo-ba! O-mo-ba! O-mo-ba! :dancing:
