Many Canucks visit, I sure did. Stay up to 6 months a yr with POE officers approval!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Once we knew my K1 case was in the system, I didn't come to the U.S. at all. I thought I wasn't allowed to.

You like it in Virginia? We went there on our honeymoon and had a great time.

Oh I see. I thought you were living down here. I wasn't aware that you were visiting because it was my impression that once the K1 visa is filed for, you aren't allowed to come to the states until it is approved and you are moving here.

You have to go back to Canada for the interview and medical exam anyhow, so how is a trip back to Canada "needless"? You can't have your medical exam done in the US, it has to be done by a panel physician in Canada. You also have to personally go to the RCMP or police station to apply for the police certificate, they don't do those by mail.

And as mentioned above, Montreal does not accept faxed copies of the checklist, you have to mail it to them.

thanks for your feed. I will go back for the interview but I didn't want to make a trip back for the package 3 if all I have to do is mail paperwork back. I will do the police report and medical when I know when the interview is and I'll just go back to canada afew weeks before the interview and get that all done. I have to wonder.....why can't I get the medical done down here. He is a civil surgeon who is also working for the USCIS just like the doctor up in canada. What do you think?
