Hi,

My fiancee and I are going to be submitting our application in the first week of Feb for K1 Visa, Im in Canada and hes in Indiana. I have two children and all the paperwork needed, My Question is, We are looking for him to book time off from work as a firefighter the last week of July first week of August as to help me move down to him, If we apply the first week in Feb is that about a good time to think about the move, or will it most likely take longer then that to be approved?

If any other Canadians have been through this process can you give me an idea on how long it took for the process to be able to move into the US please. I understand all cases are different just need on idea on if this is a possible time period or we need to reschedule that time off .

It is too difficult to say how long the process will take for your case. I would suggest for him to put in for 1 week of vacation the last week of July and one the last week of August to be safe. I'm a firefighter also, so I know he gets alot of time off (well atleast that's how California is) I put in for 1 week off each month from May to Sept so I know we will have time for arrival and wedding. Good and I think you should submit app asap.

Your looking at 4-5 months for petition approval. If you have to go through the Embassy in Montreal, I understand that its another 4-6 month wait. Vancouver is quite a bit faster, and no you can't choose. Its based on where you live.

Once the visa is granted, you have 6 months to use it.
