Thanks Mr. Technical Number 6. :P I'm just saying you can't dismiss the implications a symbol has just because it hasn't always been seen that way.

Well as always context defines. A guy wearing a Swastika T-Shirt in South Carolina probably isn't a buddhist.

And someone who wears a confederate flag t-shirt in 2008 represents something entirely different from just a flag for a set of seceded states.

True. Though the confederate flag will pretty much always have associations with racism, the Klan and Slavery.

Well Mikey just lost himself the African American vote. Oh Well... He should just campaign in Ol'General Lee while at it.

:o How shocking!

What he should do, IMO, now that he has Chuck Norris endorsing his campaign, is stage dramatic entrance stunts to his rallies - like jumping a General Lee over a river.

With the Confederate flag firmly held out the window...

Geez... Confederate flag, either a symbol of slavery and racism (and it is) or a symbol of unamericanism by proxy of secession (and it is), is not that hot a symbol, honestly... for someone to defend on the way to the presidency of the nation the COnfederacy seceded from.

Just a bit of logic there... Go Mikey!!

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Im not defending the flag or bigotry or racism by any means, however, it should be pointed out that the first original Stars and Bars ( the first National Flag of the Confederacy ) resembled the design of the Stars and Stripes. It had the stars in the left top corner which represented the seceded states and sometimes had additional stars for the border states , Kentucky and Missouri , even though they were officially still part of the Union, they did supply men to the Confederate army. It also had the red and white stripes such as the Stars and Stripes has.

Sometimes in the confusion of battle, like smoke and such, the Stars and Bars Confederate flag was confused with the Stars and Stripes Federal flag. So they modified the Confederate flag . This is flag we know of today.

The original Confederate flag often had slogans on it, like, Liberty or Death, Our Honour and Our Rights, and In God We Trust.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Isn't it great? People think we have "In God We Trust" on our money because of some deep-rooted religiosity. Really it was appeasement for the Confederates, whose phrase, as Nagishkaw has pointed out, it was.

Just giving a little history lesson on the flag, that's all. Maybe IN God We Trust was written on Federal money, and that I would not know.

Oh no.. with Chuck Norris' endorsement I feel there could be an increase in round house kick related deaths among the other contenders.

"Chuck Norris doesn't sleep... he waits"

My personal opinion on the "Southern" flag, as an outsider that didn't know very much about the North/South thing. After some reading since I've been here and seeing how people use the southern flag and how the southerners that I've met are.. I'd say that flag is not "pride" but instead hate and shouldn't be allowed to fly anymore than a nazi flag should be allowed to fly. A lot of people try to gloss over what the flag is and what it is to me is a hate symbol. Like it or not, the south lost the north won ditch the flag it's gone and over with.
