I am flipping out.

Today is my B'day, wish we could celebrate together :crying: we missed a ton of b'days and holidays !

If it weren't for the tears, I'd think that was an April Fool's trick! Happy Birthday girl!!

Hello Everyone...

The other day I saw an infomercial (yeah I know) for the Magicjack and got curious.

This thing may work if your SO has high speed internet connection and a plug in phone. Has

anyone tried this out yet? What I wanted to do was set it up here and then send it to my

hubby and be able to talk via telephone for free...(minus the yearly cost). I saw in an OFFTOPIC

thread that folks were using it with good success. I know one drawback for us is the proof of

relationship aspect of not having a phone log to show at interview, but I'd rather like to save some cash

also. Anyone????????

I've never hear of magic jack. But I do remember that we were talking about using VOIP services like Vonage and sending a phone and packet oversease to make the calls. That actually gives you a log of calls and it's like a local call cause you choose an american phone number. It's pretty cool. But My fiance doesn't have internet connection at home, so it didn't work for us. Several of the ladies on MENA use it. I remember JPrincess still uses it for her hubby to talk with family back home as much as he wants. If that internet connectivity thing pans out in SS Africa, I think that would be a great option for us. Right now, everyone uses cell phones.

The SS African internet connection thing is a bummer, huh? I used to get so jealous of those other people who are able to use Vonage and spend like $25 a month vs our hundreds (and even thousands). My husband never had a personal internet connection either. 100% cell phone.

Yeah that is a drawback for many...and even in my husbands case his service gets slow or drops him sometimes. But spending $100+ a month on phone calls is

eating away at my pocket book... and with gas prices going higher and higher if I can save 50% on phone cards then why not. I figured even if it dosent work I can use it when I travel internationally. Also initial costs are $39.95 + $6.95 s&h. $19.95 per year there after.

I wonder why those internet cafes don't have phones set up on one or two of the computers as an added service? Busy internet could definitely do it with that great big generator they have. Plus, I think their service is 24 hours.

I feel you on saving money. Those phone calls can get expensive and you have to do what you gotta do in order to keep them going. That is an excellent price!

Zainab, Booker used to call me sometimes from one of those internet cafe phones and it was horrible! I hated it. It would sound like he was talking through a hollow tube and the delay was at least 30 seconds. I would say something...silence for 30 sec-1min....his response....ugh! Busy Internet is pretty popular and they do have a big generator and probably a better connection than some rinky dink Liberian cafe located in a hole in a wall. Do they not have the phones there?

No, I mean a VOIP. The owners of Busy Internet are foreigners they are no doubt familiar with VOIP phone services. They should sign up and set up a couple of phones. I would get double duty out of their computers.
