Hello!!

I hope you all won't mind my imposing on your thread. I'm wondering if the Nigerian VJMs could give me some information on common health practices used in Nigeria to prevent illness or maintain wellness. Or treatments used for illness. Also what types of things would someone the health care need to know in order to take care of you or your love one? I am doing a heritage assessment for my cultural nursing care class. (already done Jamaica my SO's country) If you could PM me with any interesting remedies you have that would be great! Meanwhile I will continue my search on the net.

Thanks again...

I'll mosey on back to my neck of the woods :star:

Ja bless

Welcome Brownnskinn, am not from Nigeria but I hope someone can help you with the questions.

Maybe you can break it down a little more and make it more specific as to what you are looking for as a starting point ?

Are you only looking for the Nigerian culture ? Sub-saharan should be pretty the same everywhere with those issues I would think.

Anything close would be of value. Just any natural remedies used in the culture. Any views on the use of medicine. Access to health care? commom health practices?

thanks again. Pm me if you have or know of anything.

My SO exercises. He also chews on a bitter stick every day. I don't know what they are called. His family uses a lot of herbs when ill. They go to see medical doctors trained in western medicine, but I think they trust the herb doctors more.

The stick is a medicinal stick, It keeps the digestive system clean. For bacteria puposes. My guy works out a lot as well. Everywhere I went in Dakar people were chewing on those sticks. I just continued on with my malaria tablets.

Herbs are a way of life as well. I am a true advocate of herbs. I have gotten the most relief from most alternative wellness practices.

Health and Wellness Always!!!

Health and Wellness to you always

May your life be filled with many colors.

ZeeNusah,

You had congratulated me in the thread about us having the visa in hand. I somehow missed your post until tonite, so I am here in Sub Saharan to tell you personally Thank You for your congrats. It means a lot to me. :)

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

No problem :)

You definitely deserve it for the amount of time and energy you spend encouraging others on these boards. You are a God send.
