I didn't know you were bringing your daughter. That's more great news! We are thinking about bringing the kids with us when we go to Liberia in December, but I am kind of worried. Will it be too hot for them? Will they get injured? Will they be able to find a "potty" in time? I think we will end up bringing them, though, because they are excited about the idea of being in Liberia. Besides, all of the family there wants to meet them badly. Mine are ages 4 and 6 and they are so curious that I'm going to have to keep a tight grip on them if they go with us.

LOL, I don't see you being able to sleep on the flight. I think you will be too jittery. I always try to sleep to let the time pass faster, but it's hard to get comfortable while sitting straight up in a confined space.

No. Kay is going down to Atlanta to be with Grandma for a portion of her summer vacation. She's 6, but still too young for that kind of travelling in my mind. The malaria medicines and other health concerns are just too much for me. To be honest, she got sick when we went to Disney World, so she won't be going to Africa for probably 3 or 4 more years until she's a little more mature and can pay attention to her personal needs. I still have to watch everything too closely, so I'm not comfortable with that. Kay is half chinese and hasn't been to China either because her father's family lives in rural China that is very similar in development to Ghana. It's just not safe yet for her. (I'm a very protective mama.) Bassi's mom is heartbroken, but she does understand how I feel, cause I almost inevitably get sick in Ghana. Not deathly sick, but usually some kind of stomache thing hits me during my trips. Then they call Holland and ask Rukaya (my future sister in law) what to do with this sick westerner and she translates western to african and they fix me up just right. :)

I wanna go :crying:

Awwww, Zee, don't be emotional. You'll be right behind me. And think about it, the next time you go to Ghana, at some point you'll have to stand in the middle of a circle of all your family and friends with Nusah and DANCE!

hehehe

Zainab, take some Flaggyl along with you and a broad spectrum antibiotic for your stomach issues.

Well, I won't be drinking anymore pure water......that'll help obviously.

Bassi said his mom has bought me special utensils and will only wash them with bottled water and plans to only cook with bottled water as well. I have a feeling Bassi is gonna have me on lock down, so I won't be allowed to buy roasted meat from the vendors anymore. When I'm sick, he loses his mind. I'm afraid of what it'll be like when we have our first child together. I may have to get him a doula.

A doula for Bassi

That's what we did, washed and cooked with bottled water, rinsed the Mangoes off etc. I still got the tummy rumbles but not bad. I had my meds for that........I came prepared.

The heat was what almost did me in !

And the rat in the toilet almost made me go over the edge..........ah reminiscing.

who is Omar???

Omar is my " waiting to get an embassy interview in Dakar " buddy.

About the rat in the toilet.

Here is the full version.

It was in the middle of the night, we were sleeping and of course I have to use the bathroom again !

There was no electricity but by now I was brave enough to go in the dark. Half asleep I walk down the long hallway and attempt

to enter to use the toilet and there I hear slash splash in the toilet bowl.

I run to Stevphen ( your fault Zainab ) and say honey there is something splashing in the toilet to which he very sleepily relpies

oh it's probably just a ......( those things that crawl on the walls, can't think of the name ).

I grab a flashlight and shine it into the bowl and there is a black fuzzy looking thing in it and it is alive and taking a beauty bath in the water.

It also chewed up our precious toilet paper roll. ( You know that's like pure gold there for me ! )

Now I race back screaming it ain't no.....whatchamacallit ......it is moving and big !

When he heard that he flew out of the bed past me so fast like lightening and when I got there he was attacking a big rat with

a toilet plunger, knocking it upside the head and flushing it into the abyss !

My hero

It had come through the pipes from the outside.

Ah yeah .....we had some fun there.
