I'm not sure what the medical will be like there in Canada but when I had mine they ran a blood test to check which titers I already had in my system. They found that I was already immune for chicken pox (among others).

Generally they will accept a verbal confirmation that you have had chickenpox. However - if you only have the above information - ie: you didn't contract them from your niece, that will probably not suffice. I would recommend that you go and have the titre test done in that case. If you don't have proof of your other vaccinations you will want to get the titre done for MMR as well.

A verbal declaration of chickenpox.

or

Proof of immunization against chickenpox. Normally two immunizations 4 to 8 weeks apart or the first of the two within the 4 weeks prior to your immigration medical examination.

or

An antibody titers blood test showing proof of immunity to chickenpox (varicella).
