I have this sudden, inexplicable urge to go tiger hunting.

Of course, first, I gotta get Charles to teach me how to use a damn firearm.

actually, if you want to go tiger hunting, i'd suggest you get your head examined. you stand a good chance of going from hunter to hunted real quick with them.

Hmmm. British colonialists with rifles hunted the Indian tiger into near extinction. I guess they were better hunters than you :P

research what the score was, i'm certain more than a few brits became dinner.

None of this changes the fact that if we have zoos where visitors are permitted then the animals should be properly secured at all times.

Let's also remember that in all the zoos all over the world everyday millions of visitors are safe. The likelihood of an animal killing a visitor is so small that the numbers don't even register. So when something like this happens and we are totally appalled because these things just don't happen, I don't believe we should jump and scream negligence when we have no idea exactly what went down. I also still maintain that even with the likelihood of being mauled to death by a dangerous animal being so small, neither can a zoo 100% guarantee total safety. I just don't believe it's possible....and I don't put that down to negligence, just the nature of animal behavior.

Also, I don't believe this tiger would have percieved this as an exciting fun game. Grown tigers don't play for the heck of it. And no, she wasn't hungry. I think she felt threatened. That was her space, she knew it, and she was probably defending it.

I'm not going to change anyone else's opinion I realize, and that's ok. LOL

BTW, don't even get me started on Sigfried and Roy....aaack!

That's a pretty scary picture - but its impossible to find pix of those guys that are halfway normal. Enzyte Roy looks like he's sporting a huge hard-on below the frame.

Here we go again blame the victim, You know for example: what where you doing or wearing to get raped? Or why were you in that part of the city at that hour to get robbed? Etc. now we want to blame a 19 year old who has had a little too much to drink for being eaten alive by a tiger in a zoo. So its another case of blaming the victim. Excuse me but people taunt animals all the time drunk or not in zoos. The problem is the animals should not be able to escape their enclosures. Beer and wine are sold inside the San Francisco Zoo, even my local zoo--Zoo Atlanta has bartenders setup through out the Zoo grounds serving beer, wine, and cocktails. So if drinking was the problem then why serve drinks in the first place--well that's just it its not the problem its the poor design of a tiger enclosure. Lets stop blaming the victim.

Yup. But a cat was killed!!!! Who cares that a human was killed..... now back to my house that smells like cat sh!t.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Who's jumping and screaming? I don't disagree with most of what you have said. All I have tried to show is that to blame the teens for this mauling is disengenous and to say, well they deserved it because they were drunk/high on drugs is flippant at best particulary for the teen that died. Simply put, it could have been anyone who got hurt because in this instance the zoo failed to take all reasonable measures to ensure visitor safety.

I don't believe this tiger would have percieved this as an exciting fun game.

Noted and quite honestly, I don't really believe that either, but my point was, a person's perception of what constitutes 'taunting' may well be vastly different than a wild animal's perception. I have kept animals, as I am sure have most people, and the things that can scare the wits out of them and make them resort to 'fight or flight' are not necessarily the things that we anticipate will do so. In other words, do we really know that it was the actions of the teens that caused the tiger to become agitaged? It's quite possible but it's not certain.

In essense if all reasonable steps had been taken or the teens somehow enabled the tiger to escape they would bear some responsibility for their own fate. As things stand, we know the zoo failed to provide a secure enclosure and there is no evidence that the teens in any way assisted the tiger's escape. Yes, it is sad that a tiger died but then again the zoo also failed to take a 911 call seriously when it came in. Surely it's better to assume the worst and waste a little time, than assume it's a prank and find out that it's not. For all we know, had the 911 call been taken seriously from the start, the tiger might not have been killed.
