The school work never ends. One of my RN subjects this term is community health. Our first assignment is to pick a culture and answer 15 questions. My group---much at my suggestion--has choses the Inuit! I have always been very impressed of these fine people,they seem to overcome so much. If your Inuit and would be happy to answer some questions about your culture I would be extremely grateful. I have a bunch of fine websites, but if you know of some, post away. The questions I have:

#1 Cultural / Ethnic Identity - Include preferred term for the ethnic group

#3 Include major language and dialects, nonverbal communication, tone of voice, orientation toward time, privacy

#4 Activities of Daily Living

#5 Modesty, hair care, skin care, toileting, special clothing, amulets, food practices, prohibitions

#6 Symptom Management, Illness Beliefs

#7 Pain, folk remedies, causes of illness, causes of diseases

#8 Birth Rituals

#9 Care of New Mother

#10 Care of the New Baby

#11 Death Rituals

#12 Discussion of end of life decisions

#13 Care of the body, attitudes toward organ donation and/or autopsy

#14 Family relationships: their composition, structure, decision-making, spokesperson, gender issues, and expectations of elders, children, and visitors.

#15 Spiritual / Religious orientation and rituals

Not that this is helpful at all, but...

I was asked once by someone here in the states when they heard I was Canadian if I was Inuit... I'm of Japanese decent...

Thing with wikipedia, ya cant really use them as a true resource. there fine to get an idea--which I did--but cant list them as a resource because anyone can add stuff to that page, and one can't truly verify if its true or not!

I had friends who used to live in Rankin Inlet. They introduced me to this magazine and I subscribed to it for a few years. It is a great resource for life in the Arctic communities and the territories. I am not sure how extensive their online site is, but here is the link: http://www.uphere.ca/ Hope it helps.
