Wahrania, I don't usually weigh in on medical stuff, but TAKE THE ADVAIR!!! f you don't you might end up back in the same situation. What's worse for your baby, taking a drug that hasn't been studied in pregnant women (but we use quite often anyway, with no apparent problems) or you NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATHE????

Sorry, I know it's scary, but anything that affects you affects your baby. You might not have kicked this asthma exacerbation yet, you need to do whatever you can to keep from ending up not being able to breathe again. And actually, more important than the advair is the prednisone they should have given you.

Hospital bills are scary, insurance or not. The good thing is that no matter what sum of money u send them, they will accept it so don't worry about having to pay it all off at 1 time. Just take care of urself and if u need to go to the ER again, GO!

Hey everyone,

I just got discharged last night. I had a really severe asthma attack on the afternoon of the 15th and spent the next day and a half racking up a 6700 dollar doctor bill. I finally asked them to stop treating me 23 hours later because after 23 hours of non stop albuterol and steroids and magnesium, my lungs felt clear but my heart rate was pounding through the roof and not once did they offer me a transvaginal ultrasound or a blood quantitative test. I finally begged them to release me from post emergency care and asked to go to the womans hospital. They did an hcg test and it came back at 2300 but they still cant see the baby yet cause I am only like 3 or 4 weeks. I didnt even get to Algeria until December 18 and I did not ovulate until at least Christmas so I really wont know about viability until about the 23rd although the dr could see the gestational sac and the 2300 count was in line with the time. Until they see a fetal pole in the sac, its not viable but he seemed ( the ob on call) happier when he saw the low hcg level. Next week , I will go back in for another transvaginal and another hcg level. If it goes up I am good to go, if it goes no where its not viable and with 20 different types of steroids and nearly dying 2 days ago from lack of oxygen ( my oxygen sats were at 10 percent of normal and by the time they did the breathing test on the machine I was only at 50 percent of lung capacity even after 24 hours of treatment. The night of the 14th, I woke up with cold feet and cold hands and kept taking albuterol hits every hour and struggling to breath, afraid to go to the emergency room because of the cost ( and I already know this visit cost me 6700 uninsured.

I need to claim income and even though I am uninsured, I need to claim income so I don't mess up my husbands papers. I am under horrible stress.

As far as the lol oh god comment,

If she is Algerian, then I am Heidi Klum and Seal is on his way home with Chinese takeout.

Love you guys

That sounds like an ordeal. Then to top it all off, you may be pregnant. I hope you were planning for a baby. MENA BABIES ROCK!!!

Get well!

Take it easy, there is nothing worst than struggling for breath, it is the worst feeling in the world. Everyone is right take good care and try to get some rest. (F)

Glad you are out of the hospital. You need to be careful with your health especially being pregnant the little one needs a healthy mom so that he/she is healthy.Maybe the hospital has a program to help people with no insurance. But the main focus is on you and your child, they can't get blood from a turnip.Focus on your family and please take you medicine. You will be in my prayers.Be safe & take care

I agree with the others take the Advair, you and baby need oxygen, that is definitely true. That is so horrible about the cost :ranting: but hopefully there is a way to work it out... I am praying for you every day and happy you made it through that episode - my stepfather suffered from COPD for years and died from it... not being able to breathe is the worst thing..

Why don't you go on medicaid? I as well as my son were on medicare when my husband came as it was a two in one package (at least in our state) and he needed to be on insurance. I did have a co-sponsor however so that might have made the difference. I just think that there must be some more alternatives out there - no insurance is not one of them.
