I used to use ASPEN..it's the cheapest & with unlimited minutes..You can call them anytime & your recepient can also call you back (depending on your plan)...they will send a cellphone to your family (recipient) in the philippines (which is good considering that many homes in PI do not have landlines). Only you can call them on that cellphone, they cannot use the cellphone to call anybody..as it is programmed to only recieve & make calls to your assigned number..It's direct dial too (they will assign a local area code..no more 1-800 numbers) . Check it out. Hope this helps..

Wow, So many ideas and so little time to try all of them!

I have broadband there in the Phils and use both Yahoo Messenger Computer to Computer (Gotta have the Web Cam), and a Magic Jack. It's free! The beauty of the Magic Jack is it costs ~$50US for 1 year, or ~$100 for 5 years, no monthly service charges. Gives you a local US phone number where ever you are, and you plug a real phone into it. You just need a computer with a USB port and Broadband. Gives you voicemail and all that too. Works great for me, and they can call free anywhere in the US or Canada, from the Phils. (The neighbors love it!)

http://www.magicjack.com/

The drawback is that I can only call the Magic Jack phone at the Families house, but it's a free local call. With a little planning... You can also add prepaid International Long Distance (Carrier is ATT, but we aren't supposed to know that!).

I'm not associated in any way with Magic Jack by the way, other than using them for phone service! I use one here too as a landline, beats the monthly charges for any other service I know of, even broadband based.

I've used several LD services in the past, and hated them. Either it's Ten minutes for a call that didn't complete or sucked, or you hit a credit limit. Either way it's better than Phone cards, but not much!

We still use Yahoo Messenger prepaid to call the other relatives, works good, but from what I read here there are cheaper ways to make these calls...

I'll have to try Rebtel, sounds good.

Ditto to that, that's what we use

i am subscribed to bonus call ( www.bonuscall.com ) which has a flat fee of $69 per month. i pay only $49 since i reffered somebody to their service. i also use cell connect ( www.cellconnect.com ) kasi kapag may bagyo napuputol ung bonus call. nasa province kasi un fiancee ko. pero clear naman ung linya. cell connect is 13c sa landline and 18c on cell phones. magic jack is the way to go if you are sending to somebody who has a computer with broadband connection. vonage is good too, but compared to magic jack, vonage is highway robbery.

4. Look at http://www.gorillamobile.com/ <- 13 cents landline / 19 cents mobile

I like gorillamobile. It may not be the cheapest, but it gives a clear connection and doesn't drop calls like a lot of the other calling card services.

Gorilla too, love it as you don't have to fanny around carrying cards and putting in pin numbers. I have all my overseas numbers stored on one touch dial in my cell phone.

Obviously internet cheapest way to go but you have to be both by a computer, don't have a landline so gorilla works for me!
