On a dreary day

(Much like today

with the sky a charcoal grey)

Make mine a duvet.

When the wind blows cold

(See Ol' Man Winter still has hold

of the Elm City, I'm afraid)

Though springtime shows a dainty flush

From time to time, and new springs gush

In Edgewood Park from day to day

Still! Make mine a duvet.

And even when we relocate

To California (not to near the Golden Gate

but to El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de Los Angeles, I mean, L.A.)

I'll say, make mine a duvet.

I'm the comfy sort. I like my bedding soft.

I know my togs. I know my "loft".

The girls at John Lewis see me coming and say,

"Make hers a duvet."

Is this duvet preoccupation

The product of an imagination

Running rampant with ideas I've plucked from VJ

(Which merely encourages me to make mine a duvet

(On days when I should be working

instead I am lurking

on threads which I'm interested in for totally prurient reasons – I mean, on some of these threads there is seriously nothing I can say

except that I intend to make mine a duvet.)

But I digress! One of my bad habits, I know.

So I'll bring this ambling, slow

Paean to bedding to its close without delay.

But know it, dearest UK VJ,

That I intend to make mine a duvet.

Well, we do spend a third of our lives in bed - but how often do we go out and buy new pillowcases, or take the time to plump up our duvets, or wash the mattress cover?

The great thing about laptops is being able to post online from the comfort of one's bed
