What part of Cali you moving to? You'll be closer to me then! Of course that may not be a good thing

Meet in the Bahamas sounds wonderful - we are having a July Filer meet sometime in the Fall potentially in Vegas this year so next year definitely sounds like a winner :D

We're moving to LA in early May. Not sure where exactly yet -- we'll be going out without all our stuff/junk and find someplace, then we'll have our stuff shipped out to us when we've found the right place. After doing a transatlantic move, this is not so scary!

I am SO on for a Vegas meetup if you'll let me in...

Of course you are welcome! Though I'm not sure we could make Vegas in the Fall as we're more likely heading to the UK to see Griff's dad then. However, I don't hink it would take much to convince him to go on a VJ junket in the Bahamas next year!

Of course not, but in the end it will come down to finances and babysitters! As you may recall I am encumbered with 3 kids, which tends to make traveling a bit more challenging. Good thing about having my kids before age 30 is that once I'm 50 I will be pretty much free to do whatever, where ever!

Hey guys, I'm going to be LA when I finally make the move. It's cool so many UK VJers are in the area. I was hoping to be there by July, but my work is project based, and we are behind schedule, so it's looking more like August now. Gotta keep telling myself, it' s good for my savings.

Still, we could try to do an LA UK meet up - I wouldn't want to crowd the July filers meet up as an imposter ;)

Aww - bring 'em along - we love kids... besides - I am sure they would appreciate the drinking and gambling in Vegas

Yay for lots of UK peeps near LA :D!!

I have no idea where we'll live, we've never been there before! I think I'd like Santa Monica because I get the impression it might be possible to get around by walking, but it might be to expensive. I want to work in film, so, we will want to stay near Hollywood and the studios etc.

Of course I forgot your OH is not here yet!

Santa Monica is nice, though rents are a bit pricier than other parts of town. It is walkable, plus the beach and the pier are nearby. Loads of brits/irish too. I live in Venice which is nearby and I love it - a lot cooler temps than even a few miles inland, which is a bonus. But I'd probably have a bigger place for the $$$ if I was in Hollywood.

SM is a decent commute if you work at Sony or Fox, but highly crapulent if you get a job at Universal,Warner or Disney!

For sure! Poiteen - the commute to the Valley is HORRIBLE from SM/Venice. Do you have a studio you are interested in? I told hubby the other day, the #1 worst thing about LA is traffic. If I had a long commute I'd move away.

I recommend Culver City/Palms. It's kinda close to the beach (4 miles) & far less traffic than Hollywood. Walkable too.

I wish I was there already, the weather sux here.

rkl57 - actually Venice was reccommended to me by a collegue who lived out there for a while, he loved it. I work in post-production here in London, it's project based, so I end up moving workplaces every 6-9 months. I find the best thing to do is just find somewhere that I like living, cos it's never going to be convienient for Everywhere.

Maybe I'll see where Maven finds a good spot, and then jump on the bandwagon :hehe::lol:

well it's sunny and 75 here!

hmmm - that's a tough one, because if you are freelance and change jobs quite a bit there will be no magic place that guarantees you won't have a bad commute since the studios are pretty spread out. Living on the westside and commuting to Burbank sucks, and vice versa. I hope you know how to drive!

My personal recommendations are Venice, Santa Monica, Culver City, West Hollywood, Los Feliz and Silver Lake. They are all nice and have their advantages.

yes - it's being freelance that's keeping me here for so long  but I can't afford to burn any bridges, it's a small industry ;)

Our plan is to move somewhere cheap get ourselves set up with jobs and all, and then once we know the city and have a better idea of what we can afford, look for somewhere more permanent. We are only going to be renting anyway, so no big deal. I do think it would be amazing to live near the sea though.

oh and did i mention - no - i don't know how to drive yet :( , commuting by car can't be worse than smelly packed tubes, surely? :P
