Packet 3 arrived today B)

All this wedding talk reminds me I need to order my veil.

Also... my previous cat once ate one of my ribbons and we had to wait for it to come out gradually and cut it off in bits... I really love my Mum for handling that one.

 (temporarily regaining a stronger stomach for cat poo stories)

And...Congrats on your P3!

Thanks ^_^

Though I'm confused on one point - do I need to send back the affidavit of support with the checklist and the forms I've got to fill in, or do I just take that to the interview?

EDIT: sorry... I just re-read the info and it clearly says not to send stuff other than the forms and checklist. I am such a dufus sometimes!

Hullo!!! :)

Just popping in to say hello to everyone. Extra-special hugs and hello's to Julez, Aly and StP.

Sorry I've been quiet for a while. I have been trying to concentrate on settling in here without the internet as a crutch, plus I've been busy with wedding plans and my MSc. Anyway...

We got married on Friday! We had a wonderful day, so much better than we originally planned (if you recall we were going to marry in Vegas and have a full-blown ceremony later). We ended up having a lovely ceremony with family and friends - my mum came out too. Everything was perfect.

Now it's time for AOS :P

Glad to hear that so many people have had successful medicals and interviews since I was last on here. Congrats to Aly!!!

I got my hairpiece from Claire's - it was lovely :) It only cost about £2 but I refused to pay the ridiculous prices of "bridal" stuff. You can kinda see it here:

Ok so you can't because if the image was to be in the new 10k limit, you wouldn't be able to see it. Owel :(

I didn't mean to imply that Claire's didn't have lovely things...I think they do, but I thought a headband of the same quality you could get at Claire's selling for $150 was a bit much. I actually got mine on ebay...just won the auction today and I believe it's about $20 with shipping included.

I'm with you...if I had the cahones I would open a cheap chic bridal store for us that find the cost of most bridal stuff ridiculous.

I am having one of those periodic VJ freakouts. They go a little like this:

Someone asks a London-specific question. Like, "What questions do they ask at the interview in London?" or "How many hours early should I show up for the interview in London?" or "What's the courier fee in London?"

Operative words: IN LONDON, people!!! I don't butt in on other consulate-specific threads. I don't know squat about what happens in Vietnam, Burkina Faso, Denmark, etc etc ad nauseam. I do know what happens in London. I hang out in the UK sub-forum. I read the UK member threads in the Foreign Embassy forum. Heck, I even went through the whole process myself so I know just a smidgen about it. May I even say it is an area of some modest expertise for me? :P

But when someone replies AFTER I have said "This is what happens in London -- lots of anecdotal evidence", and throws in advice which may be correct and relevant to other consulates -- heck, even most of them, what do I know? -- but has nothing to do with the London Embassy, I just want to cry. It makes me look like a moron when I feel I have to step back into the thread and say essentially: no. I look like a smug, condescending bully, when actually all I want is for the real info to get out.

Can you tell I've had a rotten day???

Edited to add: okay, just checked back and the same person has now gone and probably scared the bejeebus out of the OP on a thread, mentioning AP lasting years. Yes, AP happens in London, but seriously folks! Years?

Oh my god, I just need to step away from the computer.

Alex and Rachel :D the MOB dress OMG :D I can´t imagine any mother to wear those. It´s so fancy and sugary and everything :D Do you know how much fancier the bride´s dress would have to be if MOB was wearing these and the bride would like to stand out a little bit more? :)

On a whole, I found if anything is labeled "bridal" the cost goes up quite a bit just because of that. I don't want to wear a veil or a tiara, so I was looking at headbands. I went into one bridal store and found some cute ones...but they were all well over $100! To me they were maybe slightly better in quality than something you would get from Claire's. Same with shoes...I ended up just getting some nice flats from Payless for $18.

Yes :) When they hear "bridal" they say it´s $1.000 more for some reason, whatever it is :P Pick whatever you want from somewhere and don´t ever mention you are getting married :D You will save lotsa dollars that way :)

And Aly was a beautiful bride :D:thumbs:

What? She didn´t like your Mom to just pull it out? :P
