Morning all :D

Just thought i'd pop in and say that I got here safely. My POE was completely painless, all over within about 5 minutes!! The first guy at immigration even laughed and joked about the effects of marriage on his hairline :P Secondary inspection was literally a 5 second ordeal :o All he said was, 'you know you have 90 days to get married, right?' I said yes, and he said well, congratulations! You can go now! :D

Our apartment is reallllly nice! Needs a bit of cleaning, I had all the windows off yesterday  I am settling into domesticated life rather well... I even shocked myself

I am in a state of shock that I have my very own American front door key and weiss card

Oh oh oh! AND I am now 'officially' engaged :D We were in our back yard the day before yesterday and Chris dropped down on one knee (Under a BIG cherry tree!) and gave me the most beautiful ring!

We are at my Dad's at the moment going through wedding plans etc!!

Argh! So excited!!!

Hope everyone is doing well!!

Will try and pop on later.

Speak soon! xxx

CONGRATULATIONS!

and Welcome to America. :D

Gillian

Aww Jeraly... you'll be fine! Kris is already beginning to go through his stuff now. He's exited, anxious and nervous. He was happy to figure out he could get his favorite chocolate in the states though.

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere on the forum, but I'm contemplating selling my computer before I move over and transferring my personal documents/pics etc through some online middleman:

Tourists visiting the US face even tougher security checks now airport officials can search through mobile phones and laptops.

I heard about the laptop checks... Damian is backing everything up on cd and sending it to me then totally reformatting his laptop so its cleared out. rather them not go through all of our pictures. they already know tons about us and our personal life.

I'd do that, but are customs likely to inspect cds (or dvds... I've got an awful lot of digital camera pics) when you mail them over with DHL or similar?

Damian has a lot of downloaded movies so he doesn't need any problems with customs on these. and the digital camera photos we have all backed up already. he's backing up some of his programs and other files he might want to keep. he usually just sends them royal mail. we've never had a problem before and we aren't in a hurry getting them here and royal mail is a lot cheaper. I don't think many people's checked luggage is even gone through. we're just doing it to be safe. if its just pictures you'll have no problem with them on cd/dvd.

I've had an awful time with customs in England!! they went through every belonging I had and even my scrapbook and photo albums. read letters...... and if it turns out to be anything like that they will check cds/dvds.. but thats England and thats why we're being safe.

Hmm yeah, I've got anime that I'd prefer to bring over but would probably be frowned upon by the powers that be. If you just bung them over via Royal Mail and say "CDs" on the customs sticker, that'd be enough for them to slip through the net?

We haven't ever had a problem with customs and sending anything with royal mail... We even sent pocket knives that are illegal here in the US.. so I wouldn't worry too much about mailing. just put cds. you should be just fine.. Damian will be sending his out sometime in the next 2 weeks so i'll let you know how it goes.

Alex and I have exchanged many a burned CD/DVD through the postal system before. Our packages always arrive unopened by Customs. I think it'd be quite safe to ship data that way. :)
