my grandad died not long after I moved here, and I wasn't able to be at his funeral, and I'm still sorry about that

I am an awful person. Why? I have had 2 months to start working on a policy paper but have I done any substantive work on it? No, no and thrice no. Now it is due in draft form in 2 weeks and I haven't written a word. It needs to be around 8-9,000 words long. Have I completed my research? No!

Ouch.. what is it about? For me the research would be the biggest obstical... writing.. not so much but i tend to knock out 2-3k in an hour when i'm working on one of my books.

The topic is on how institutional investors and proxy voting advisory services come up with their voting decisions, how they handle conflicts of interest, how proxy voting is used as part of an overall engagement strategy and how the system can be improved. Not much, really! I've already compiled a lot of research, but now I need to go over it all this weekend and start thinking about writing. When I wrote my Masters thesis, I had a strict regimen of 500 words every weekday (except Friday, which was a free day), plus 1,000 words on Saturday and Sunday -- it was all I could do with a full-time job. I work about 30 hours a week now so I think 1,000/day is totally doable.

I just emailed my boss my outline and it seems totally doable -- I broke it down into 5 main topics. I can see doing a topic a day, then another half day for the executive summary. So if I'm not around much on VJ for the next couple of weeks, you'll know why! And if I am around, will someone tell me to go back to writing?!?!?!

My university dissertation was 8,000-9,000 words long. I wrote it in two days, three days after it was due in... Turned out to be one of my highest marks in the final year, even with the 10% automatic reduction for handing it in late.

Good luck with writing it, maven! And I strongly recommend not doing what I did.

What i'm looking forward to is when my boys have to write a paper and complain about how many words they have to do. They know better when mom is used to writing 80k or more
